An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
SINGAPORE: Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Sam Tan will defend the People's Action Party’s (PAP) Radin Mas Single Member Constituency (SMC) seat in the coming General Election (GE).
Mr Tan was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC) from 2006 to 2011 before moving to Radin Mas SMC for the last round of polls.
He is also Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, and previously served as parliamentary secretary in several ministries. Prior to entering politics, Mr Tan worked at the People’s Association from 1983 to 1992 and then the Chinese Development Assistance Council until 2009.
At the last GE, he defeated National Solidary Party candidate Yip Yew Weng with 67.1 per cent of the vote. This time, Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam’s Reform Party has declared their intent to contest the Radin Mas seat.
In a break from tradition, the ruling PAP said it would announce its entire slate of candidates for the GE before the National Day Rally on Aug 23.
