Mini market owner hurt in shooting as gunmen escape
BATU PAHAT: A 40-year-old businessman from Taman Seri Fajar here almost lost his life when two gunmen followed him home and fired a few shots at him.
The victim known as Cheng, who owns a mini market in Bagan, Semerah, sustained minor injuries to his right arm and chest after the bullets grazed him in the 10pm incident on Monday.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Wahid Musa said when the victim reached a junction near his house, he realised that a car was following him.
One of the men in the car got down and fired a few shots at the victim, he said yesterday.
Cheng tried to escape by reversing his pickup truck into the suspects’ car and the gunmen fled.
In the process, he knocked into two neighbours’ cars parked by the roadside.
ACP Abdul Wahid said investigations were ongoing for attempted murder and the victim was sent to Hospital Putra Batu Pahat for treatment.
According to a neighbour, who refused to be identified, she thought the gunshots were fireworks.
