I also start off my tieng viet with this copy and kep it as my dictionary. Now my tieng viet dictionary has expanded alot....thanks to bro lament.

Never notice such club exist till its alive again... i wanna sign up :D

Somemore lesson to increase your vocabulary. To me it is also very difficult to pronounce everyone correct. Might be useful to you if u wan to sms to your gal or biz associate:

1. Tại Câu lạc bộ Quốc tế (At the International Club)

a) Misaki (M) - Japanese and Ali (A) - Singaporean.

M Chào anh! How do you do?
A Chào chị! How do you do?
M Xin lỗi. Anh từ đâu đến?
Excuse me. Where are you from?
A Tôi từ Singapore đến.
I am from Singapore.
Còn chị, chị từ đâu đến?
And you, where are you from?
M Tôi từ Nhật đến.
I am from Japan.
A Xin lỗi. Tên chị là gì?
Excuse me. What is your name?
M Tên tôi là Misaki.
My name is Misaki.
Còn anh, tên anh là gì?
And you, what is your name?
A Tên tôi là Ali.
My name is Ali.
M Anh là thành viên câu lạc bộ phải không?
You are a club-member, aren't you?

Me too Bro KT...Started from here n has expanded thru conversation with my baxa...:D

Anyway, I m still interested to sign up for proper Vietnamese lesson so that I can improve my pronunciation. Asked around last time but it costs about SGD250-300 per 10 lessons...Any bros interested??

II. NGỮ PHÁP (GRAMMAR)

1. Making introductions (Cách giới thiệu)

Tôi xin giới thiệu với ông: Ðây là bà An.
May I introduce Mrs. An to you?
Cho phép tôi giới thiệu: Ðây là ông Hải.
Let me introduce Mr. Hai.
Tôi xin tự giới thiệu: Tên tôi là Việt Anh.
May I introduce myself : My name is Viet Anh.

2. Way of asking about one's name (Cách hỏi tên người)

Tên ông (bà, anh, chị...) là gì?
What's your name?
Tên tôi là Mai Hải Ðăng.
My name is Mai Hai Dang.

Tên ông ấy là gì?
What is his name?
Tên ông ấy là Ðỗ Mạnh Thắng.
His name is Do Manh Thang.

Note:
Tên ông là gì? = Ông tên là gì?
What is your name?
Tên tôi là Hùng. = Tôi tên là Hùng.
My name is Hung.

3. Way of asking about one's nationality (Cách hỏi quốc tịch)

Ông (bà, anh...) là người nước nào?
What is your nationality?
Tôi là người Malaysia.
I am Malaysian.

Ông Lee là người nước nào?
What is Mr. Lee 's nationality?
Ông ấy là người Trung Quốc.
He is Chinese.

* To say about nationality, you use the word người + name of the country (Ðể nói về quốc tịch, bạn dùng từ người + tên nước).

NGƯỜI ẤN ÐỘ the Indian

4. To say about language, you use the word tiếng + name of the language (Ðể nói về ngôn ngữ, bạn dùng tiếng + tên ngôn ngữ).

tiếng Nga Russian language
tiếng Nhật Japanese language
tiếng Pháp French language

Tôi học tiếng Việt ở Ðại học Quốc gia Việt Nam.
I study Vietnamese at the Vietnam National University.

5. phải không? is a question-tag added to statements to form interrogative sentences (phải không? - được gắn vào cuối mệnh đề để tạo câu nghi vấn).

Anh là họa sĩ phải không?
You are a painter, aren't you?
Ông ấy là người Trung Quốc phải không?
He is Chinese, isn't he?
Bà Aishah từ Malaysia đến phải không?
Mrs. Aishah is from Malaysia, isn't she?

6. cũng means "also", "too". cũng and đều are adverbs which always stand before the verbs or adjectives to express the unity of actions, the characteristics of the subjects (cũng và đều luôn đứng trước động từ hoặc tính từ để biểu thị sự đồng nhất về hành động, về đặc điểm của chủ thể).

Chị nói tiếng Pháp. You speak French.
Tôi cũng nói tiếng Pháp. I also speak French.
Chúng ta đều nói tiếng Pháp. All of us speak French.

7. Both chúng tôi and chúng ta mean "We" but chúng tôi doesn't include listener(s). Chúng ta includes both speaker and listener(s)
(Cả chúng tôi lẫn chúng ta đều có nghĩa là We nhưng chúng tôi không bao hàm người nghe. chúng ta bao hàm cả người nói lẫn người nghe).

Chúng tôi là sinh viên. We are students.
Các anh cũng là sinh viên. You are also students.
Chúng ta (we and you) đều là sinh viên. All of us are students.

What if all of the tieng viet speaking seniors here gather for a session at one of those viet pubs in Joo Chiat or Geylang?

How will the working girls react??? Hmmm...

Even though u cannot pronounce it correctly, you can just note down these sentences and when u are at one of the place where u can find a "teacher" u ask her to read it to u.... hehehehe
