Well, one thing for sure, she does has a liking for you else she wouldn't be bother to talk to you for so long over the phone but I wouldn't conclude that she loves you for now. Now perhaps is still the courtship "honeymoon" period, a time where you show her your sincerity and prowess but be warned, if you set the standard too high, you might find yourself having a hard time maintaining it later.

Fling? You mean that you are just sianing her for the sex and more? Sometimes I feel foreigners like us are very funny people. On one hand, we hope that the gal will be true to us and love us for what we are.

On the other hand, we need to go back to our wives and family later. The sober ones will know when to go home and the confused ones will think of way NOT to go home for now if not forever. This is how broken marriages are made.

Its sad to hear that you got scammed in a ktv. In fact, once in a while I do go to ktv alone. However, the rule of thumb is, you should go to one that you are familiar, ideally, a mamasan or two you know would be of help. If your purpose of going to a ktv is to have some drinks and a female companion, that will lead to a bonk, a safer way I would suggest, first go to a health center to unload. Then go to a pub where you can have a few rounds of drinks, it will be a bonus if the watering hole has some female companion. At the end of the day, you would have achieved most of your objectives, minus the karaoke singing, which can be easily satisfied by going to Qiangui or Haledi. Afterall, its never cheap to bonk someone from a ktv. I would always want to avoid this at all costs, except if the place is somewhere in Dongguan where most deals are straightforward.

Just sharing some personal experience when I was in Shanghai 'god knows how long ago'.

What you have suggested are more for seniors whom had seen and heard too much about the scary stories our loving China MMs. Or rather, being attracted to 1 previously...that so much kum cheng was involved... The ordeal has made you 看破...

the problem is we are all emotional beings and people with feelings.
it's not just foreigners, it's everywhere, local or foreigner.

the thing is, if the girl likes you and all, you feel great, happy, whether or not for life or for a while or for a fling. many people have many types of feelings, lust, for want of conquest, for want of domination, for acting out fantasies, or

errrr....I wasn't attracted to Shanghainese gals b4. Actually, during my initial days (several years ago) of arrival, quite some new colleagues were asking me if I'd be interested to have a Shanghainese gf. They'd be glad to intro potential candidates to me. Of course, not to be rude, I said can try, maybe got fate, or we may just simply click. But in my mind, I was warned about Shanghainese gals, even b4 I came to Shanghai. In fact, they intro a few. B4 that, they kept telling me the candidate is damn pretty, blah blah blah. But for a few of them, upon 1st meeting, I wanted 2 run away when I saw the gal! I was just thinking, our perception of beauty is so different!!! For those that can make it physically, I didn't bother about most of them after 3 dates.

My then director, an SGPean woman, was oso rather enthusiastic to see or get me attached. After close to 1 year, I still couldn't really speak Shanghainese, my Director said it means I dont have a Shanghainese gf!
