Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice in Bangkok
Address: 960-962 Petchburi Soi 30, Phetchaburi Tat Mai Rd., Makkasan, Ratchathewi, Bangkok Telephone: +66 61 656 9659, +66 2 252 6325 Opening Hours: 6AM-2PM | 5PM-2AM, Daily Go Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice has humble beginnings. After pushing a street-food cart selling Hainanese-style chicken rice around, Sombat “Go-Ang” Pluekpaiboon decided to start his own restaurant. He opened his first outlet in Pratunam, and it has firmly stood here for over 50 years. Born to a Hainanese family, Go-Ang learned to cook from his father. Today, his stall has been recognised by the Michelin Bib Gourmand two years in a row, in 2018 and 2019, and has even expanded internationally. Before ending your meal, finish it up with the Bitter Melon and Pork Ribs Soup (฿50). Though it’s a little bitter, it helps clear the throat and can make you feel better after a filling meal. Go-Ang also serves Duck and Mushroom Soup (฿60) and Chicken Soup with Extra Bones (฿20). The interior is a simple, classic restaurant. The stainless-steel tables and wooden stools give it an old-school look too. The staff are all attentive and were quick to attend to us, and are able to give you information about the dishes if you need. Thanks to its well-known reputation, you will probably have to get ready for a queue – so come by early! In the mornings, customers start rolling in at 11am onwards, and the crowd gets bigger during the afternoon lunch break. You may have to wait, but trust me – it’s worth the time. Plus, the stall is open till 2am, so you can even pop by after a night out for a good supper meal. Or if you’re an early bird, the store opens at 6am just in time for breakfast.

Prachak Pet Yang (ร้านประจักษ์เป็ดย่าง)
Address: 1415 Thanon Charoen Krung, Silom, Bangrak, Bangkok, Thailand Open hours: 7 am – 10:30 pm daily (only closed during Chinese New Year and Songkran) Prices: About 50 – 100 THB per person (หยุดเทศกาลตรุษจีน,สงกรานต์ ) How to get there: It’s located right along Charoen Krung road, just opposite Robinson’s department store. You can take the BTS skytrain to Saphan Taksin, exit #3 (pass the Saphan Taksin boat noodles), head down Charoen Krung to your left, cross the road, and you’ll find the restaurant. Roast duck is commonly found throughout Bangkok, especially in the heavily Chinese influenced areas of town like Yaowarat (video) and Bangrak. Prachak Pet Yang (ร้านประจักษ์เป็ดย่าง) is one of the most famous of the selection, a legendary Cantonese style duck restaurant located right along Charoen Krung road, opposite Robinson’s department store. Prachak Pet Yang (ร้านประจักษ์เป็ดย่าง), along with Charoen Wiang Pochana, are two of the most well known duck restaurants in the Bangrak area of Bangkok. From the outside you’ll just see the hanging beauties with a door to the right hand side. The front of the restaurant doesn’t look too big, but go inside and you’ll find seats and even a couple floors of available tables – so it’s bigger than it looks from the outside. For a quick and tasty meal of duck and noodles, head over to Prachak.

Re: Food glorious food! Thailand
Jeib Roddeedet (former Rod Dee Det)
Address Jeib Roddeedet: 236/3-4 Siam Square Soi 2, Pathum Wan, Bangkok, Thailand. The old Rot Dee Det was at Siam Square Soi 7. How To Get There: Take the Skytrain to BTS Siam Station. Jeib Roddeedet is only a 2 min walk from the station. Opening hours: 09:00 – 21:00 every day (although Google says from 12:00 until 22:00) If you’re looking to escape the shopping malls and have an authentic Thai meal in the Siam area, you should head for Rod Dee Det at the edge of Siam Square. In an area mostly dominated by the larger food chains, Rod Dee Det is an institution in Bangkok and has been serving delicious beef noodle soup for over fifty years. In February 2017, Rod Dee Det moved a few streets (from Siam Square Soi 7 to Siam Square Soi 2), changed its name slightly to “Jeib Roddeedet,” and upscaled its interior to a more hip and edgy atmosphere. It seems like the younger generation has taken over and is managing and running the restaurant. But the food is just as good as before, don’t worry! Jeib Roddeedet is still worth a visit! Since it is close to Siam with all its grand shopping malls, Jeib Roddeedet is an excellent place to head to for some cheap and delicious food in between your shopping.

Kuang Heng Chicken Rice
Opening Hours: 6am–2pm, 5pm–12am Address: 30 Phetchaburi Rd, Makkasan, Phaya Thai, Bangkok 10400, Thailand Phone: +66 2 251 8768 Kuang Heng chicken rice restaurant which is located on the same row (facing Berkeley Hotel Pratunam). Kuang Heng Chicken Rice Restaurant is opened since 1934 and this around 75 years ago. We visited Kuang Heng chicken rice restaurant in the late afternoon, they just cooked their rice and the restaurant was busy as many tourists wanted to taste the famous chicken rice. The chicken rice set is 50 Baht and we ordered the ‘boiled’ chicken only. For unknown reason, we forgot to order the deep fried chicken as we wanted to make direct comparison of this boiled chicken with the pink shop Go Ang boiled chicken. It is the methodology of boiling the chicken as Singapore version is dipping the chicken into cold water to create the smooth skin and the collagen texture while Malaysia version is you get more texture of the meat and also the flavour from the chicken. In Malaysia, they usually glazes some oil to add flavour to the chicken but they use local rice which is less fragrant. To be honest, you will enjoy Thailand version boiled chicken rice but you won’t be super impressed. The Pratunam green shop Kuang Heng Chicken Rice is not as bad as we thought. After we tasted the chicken rice, some of my friends went to taste it and they didn’t enjoy it. We are not sure whether this is the issue of consistency or the bad chef day situation. This is as honest we can say about Pratunam green shop Kuang Heng Chicken Rice.

On a corner side street, just barely a stones throw from the bustling Asoke intersection, is an Uncle who has been making Thai basil stir fry (ผัดกะเพรา pad kaprao) for over 47 years. Now that’s experience. It’s in a spot where you can easily walk past, just down the road from the infamous Soi Cowboy, and surrounding by luxurious international restaurants. He makes a variety of different quick stir fry dishes, but among his specialties is Thai basil stir fry with your choice of either pork or chicken, and either minced meat or sliced meat. Uncle cooks with such expertise, he’s the type of experienced cook that could make Thai food with his eyes closed. You know from the beginning it’s going to be tasty, just from watching him work the wok and handle the ingredients. It’s nothing fancy, just a corner building, a few tables and stools, both inside and outside, with a concrete finish. The menu is written in Thai – he does offer a few other single plate dishes like Thai fried rice and radna.

Kam's Roast Goose
Address: 999/9 Pathum Wan District, Bangkok 10330, Thailand Hours: 11am to 10pm daily Phone: +66 2 004 7718 MRT: BTS Siam or BTS Chit Lom(7 min walks from both station) BANGKOK — The Cantonese roast franchise Kam’s Roast makes its debut in Bangkok opening its first restaurant in Thailand on Feb 11 at CentralWorld. The Hong Kong-based restaurant is set to open its doors Thursday on the seventh floor of CentralWorld mall, boasting an impressive array of roast duck and pork dishes to quell even the most raucous family gatherings and nitpicking relatives. I may still continue to dream of the Toro Char Siu (445 baht), slices of warm moo daeng pork belly ribboned with just the right amount of fat, dipped into plum sauce. The Crispy Roast Pork (410 baht) is a delightful mix of thin, crunchy skin and flavorful fat. When dipped in spicy mustard, one wants more of both. The Char Siu (374 baht) is the leaner cousin of the Toro Char Siu, with just the right amount of toughness around its red edges. The roast duck (price from 410 baht for one-fourth of the duck to 1,507 baht for an entire duck) takes three days to prepare, the restaurant says, and only 12 can be made at a time. The birds are marinated for a day, air dried for another, and roasted on the third day. It’s dense but neither tough nor stringy. The original Kam’s Roast in Hong Kong is famous for earning one Michelin star, and retaining it, for seven consecutive years from 2015 to 2021. The first branch debuted in July 2014 by Hardy Kam Shun-yuen, and won their first star just four months after opening. Kam’s grandfather, Kam Shui Fai, founded another famous roast goose restaurant, Yung Kee in 1942. Kam’s Roast also has branches in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The Thai store is the largest store in its overseas franchises, with a seat capacity of 120.

Plus, if you eat it under an hour, you get it for free! Our overall experience at the restaurant was good. The service staff and owner were very helpful and made us feel comfortable during our time there. She did mention that the restaurant gets really crowded during the lunch break, so it was great that we went down in the late afternoon and escaped the queues. So if you’d like to have your face on their wall of fame for your chicken rice-eating superpowers, head down to Sri Leung Pochana to show off your talents. More importantly, you might just walk away with free chicken ric

Thai Heng Restaurant (ร้านไท้เฮง)
Price: From USD $1.50-4 / approx. 40 -120 Baht Address: Yaowarat Soi 8, Talad Noi, Sampangtawong, Bangkok. Coordinate here Getting there: The restaurant is located in Yaowarat Soi 8 alley (Trok Tao) next to a Chinese temple, and is just 20 meters in the alley from Thanon Yaowarat Road. Contact: 0-2222-6791, 0-2623-1724 Opening hours: Daily from 10am to 10pm It’s a century old Hainanese Chicken Rice recipe. Thai Heng restaurant has been opened since 1920 with 3 generations making Hainan-style food in Chinatown. “Ancient Recipe” is what locals dub it and highly praise for its consistently delicious food. Hainan chicken is known for its big juicy slices of chicken meat. In Hainanese style, the oily rice has a bit more color than others from cooking with chicken broth, but is still fluffy and not too oily. Also, instead of using sweet soy sauce as dipping sauce, Thai Heng uses soy bean paste mixed with chili to provide a little more kick to the dish. Another signature dish is Thai Sukiyaki. You can order with soup or pan-fried style. Whichever style you choose, it comes with Hainanese-style Sukiyaki Sauce. It’s made from pink fermented tofu paste, which is different and not easy to find at any other Sukiyaki restaurant. Also, instead of using sweet soy sauce as dipping sauce, Thai Heng uses soy bean paste mixed with chili to provide a little more kick to the dish.

BBQ Terrace Phaholyothin 41 – huge restaurant space
Address: Phaholyothin Soi 41, Lad Yao, Chatuchak, Bangkok Telephone: +66 82 855 6644 Opening Hours: 4PM-11PM, Daily Price: From ฿239 BBQ Terrace is a modern loft-style restaurant that sits on Phaholyothin Road, close to Kasetsart University. We recommend starting your meals here with some of their quick bites like french fries and sausages or spicy meat salad appetiser. Seafood lovers will be glad to know that they have lots of seafood options to choose from, like fresh prawns, crab, and whole fish. Make sure you load up on the restaurant’s signature seafood dipping sauce. But spice alert: this sauce is known to be pretty hot, so have some water handy. If your tongue needs to recover after the heat, there are lots of desserts and fruits to get here. We recommend going for some coconut ice cream with add-ons like grass jelly, coconut jelly, corn, and red beans. Bar B Q Terrace is also really big, so you won’t have to worry about fighting for space or waiting too long for a table here!

This place has been open for 23 years and it’s still growing consistently. One of the main highlights that make people keep coming back again is the sauce that they use which is made from sesame seeds. The mixture of garlic, lemon, and spice in the sauce makes it so tasty that it will leave you wanting more and more. Locals have reviewed that the sauce tastes so unique that you can’t find something like this in other restaurants. Others have also said that the marinated grilled pork is very soft and non-sticky making it very easy to swallow. According to locals, some of the seafood options there are amazing and what’s highly recommended there are crispy fried mussels and fried clams. The restaurant is clean and modern and you can choose whether you want to sit indoors with air conditioning or outdoors.

Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน)
Address: Phudungdao Road, Yaowarat (Chinatown), Bangkok Open hours: 6 pm – Midnight daily Prices: Each plate of shellfish is 100 THB ($2.77) ที่อยู่ ถนนผดุงด้าว กลางซอยแท็กซัส เยาวราช เปิดบริการทุกวัน 18.00 – 24.00 น. How to get there: Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน) is located right in the heart of Yaowarat Chinatown in Bangkok, along Phudungdao Road, which is also known as Soi Texas. The stall is just down the road from the famous T & K Seafood and Lek & Rut Seafood. Located along Soi Texas (road) in Bangkok’s Chinatown, Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน) has been open and selling blood cockles, from a street food cart set up with bar counter seating, for over 40 years. The blood cockles, which are lightly boiled and served with a dipping sauce, are incredibly fresh, and for any shell-fish lovers, they are superb! Hoy kraeng (หอยแครง) means blood cockles in Thai, and Pa Jeen (ป้าจิน) is the name of the owner of the stall. Simply boiled (but perfectly boiled), and served with a dipping variety combination of sauce, the cockles she and her son serve, are not complicated… but the freshness and quality is unparalleled. The son of Pa Jeen (ป้าจิน) is now the one in charge of cooking the blood cockles and mussels, and he sits off to the right hand side of the stall, in front of the pile of blood cockles, and with simply a pot of perfectly boiling water in front of him. Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน) is truly a gem of a street food stall in Bangkok, and they serve something so specific and well proven throughout the years. If you love blood cockles, or if you’d like to give them a try, this is one of the best places in Bangkok to eat blood cockles. It could be your new favorite blood cockle bar!
