It would be a sad day for the country when citizens have to turn to criminal elements for support. The support from criminal elements comes with a price tag too hefty to pay and should never be considered.

For example, Loansharking biz started out as form of 'help' to the community, cos some of its members could not get loans from legitimate establishments. It was much appreciated but then when one could not pay, his life and his next of kin is placed in much worse jeapoday than what would have happened if he had borrowed from welfare organisations or friends or cut back on his spending - the worse is to be sued or put in jail. But with loansharks, the hell never ends with the heavily compounded interest.

While it may seem as if anarchy has arrived in JB, how much of the crimes were actually sensationalized by the media to s t i r up sentiments for whatever national agenda they are supporting on both sides of the straits on what is probably a normal crime statistic per month?

I know putting it as a statistic sounds cruel, and i would admit it too, for one crime is too many, even if it happened to a stranger i do not know. Crime will always be with us, one way or another in whatever society we live in.

The only solution is prevention and take the necessary precautions. Each country has it's own public security problem and should never be compared against one another, meaning that it may seem one country is safe to walk after midnight while another is not. No use complaining about it nor attempt to teach the host nation how to buck up its security forces for it involves the soveriegnity of a nation. We are only guests.

Thus, being visitors to a foreign land, we must never assume that its public safety standards are similar to us, whether it is in Malaysia, India, China, Vietnam, New York, etc. Rather than to hide in your own cubicle and miss out on the world, just listen to advices more and take the necessary safety precautions to minimise the probability of being a crime target.

Swearing a fealty to criminal elements for help will only bring disaster upon ourselves, for criminal elements are heads of the Hydra dragon - there is no single head honcho and they regularly fight even among themselves. Dont end up on the frying pan from the boiling pot.

Just my 2 cts worth on the issue, but very much condolences to the victims. Should our neigbours - the malaysians, need help to discuss and find legitimate ways to eradicate, or at least minimise the seemingly high crime rate, I am sure our authorities and relevant depts will offer assistance, but only if it is required.

I am saddened to see innocent folks from both sides of the straits bickering with each other when we should be united in preventing such hideous crimes from being committed. Our foes are not each other. Our common foes are the criminals.

Its accepted that when a robbery occurs, at most one will lost material goods. It is still a crime but nevertheless a lesser crime as what was lost can be replaced over time.

But what is not acceptable and totally repugnant to humanity is, the loss of life or a person is put through mental torture for the rest of her/his life, occured in what was only to be a robbery.

No mortal man has the right to arbitarily end another's life or to put a person through hell on earth. Such men who do have forsaken civilisation, both secular and religious laws, reverted to barbarism like a beast of the wild.

No other human should support or pity such beasts, whatever nationality, religion or ethnicity it belongs and should be hunted down and destroyed before its fangs hurt another. We stand together as one race - the human race - to destroy such elements where we find them and never allow them to influence others to support or join them in their beastly crime spree.

Being animals, they are longer humans who adhere to civilise rules, and it is only a matter of time before they wipe out even their own, as beasts often do, but not before destroying us humans first.

Thus, instead of fighting amongst ourselves, perhaps we should constructively:-

1. Share and discuss ideas on how to prevent ourselves being their targets. What are the areas that are often targeted. What do they see before they start targetting others. How do they operate. What are their motivation and what are their fears, etc

2. More critically, when our public security officals fail or cannot cope with the massive overload of crime, it is our civilise public duty to render assistance where we are able to do so.

Criminal elements do not operate out of a vacuum. They are organised crimes and being organised, they are made of a number of people/beasts. Such beasts do talk no matter how secretive they may believe themselves to be. Furthermore, they live amongst us, and we can easily see a sudden inflow of unaccountable material wealth with them. They will have friends and through the network of friends, words and information can be gleaned.

From such information, it should be filtered to back to the authorities, the correct ones, who will unhesitantly act upon it and stop these beasts from their acts. However, do not attempt to take it on oneself to physically stop them, for many of us would rather take our chances with the robbers than to see you hurt.

And, do not be vigilantes, but ensure such information are relayed to the right authorities, not the sleepy or corrupted ones, who are trained to handle such situations.

Please relay this message to your non-sbf reading friends. Hopefully, with public's assistance, together may we wipe out such beasts and the ghastly things they do before another innocent, be he/she a singaporean, malaysian, indonesian, american, chinese, malay, indian, eurasian, christian, muslim, hindu, buddhist, etc, gets hurt.

Hmmmm, sign a petition today about the the increasing crime rate in JB,,,hecks knows it will do nothing to help, but still have to do something.

Our Menteri Besar Ghani keep on blabbering bout the Iskandar Developement Zone...no mention about the crime rate aslo,,I hear him talk about the ID also want to puke liow.


Today the police caught all the proported SOB that committed the Gang-rape...and I believe them, you know why, because the police actually knows who these SOBs are..they have em on file..just because they are "their people".....they don't arrest them..until the case gets lots of publicity.

I was hoping to see some constructive suggestion as to how to catch these culprit n hope to lessen the risk of travelling in Malaysia.

Now I really appreciate the calmness and maturity or our minister when faced with comments of inmature politicians of umno..

It really takes a person with strong character n will power not to be influence by some shit stirrer that is out to sow discord between neighbouring countries. (for this I support their pay increase- just one this only)

What Johor really need now is a real Hero that will go rounding at night on quiet roads and shoot these scums of society when they try to rob him or when he witness such attempt.. Since the police is not doing anything, I doubt he will get caught.

understand what u meant... only those who faced the horror will comprehend. happened a few years ago in indonesia too. unfortunately, i was there and my client, a billionaire i suspect, was in sg begging me on the phone to get his daughter out for him cos his daughter was still stuck in his servants' house. was lucky enough to get only a minor beating from 4 guys after i gave away my watch and whatever money i had. but they let me and the client's daughter go. imagine if i met up with perverts...

managed to get back alive but then has a small scar on my right cheek to remind me always that no matter how much $ there is, i will never want to put myself in that position again. dont want cheap petrol, cheap groceries, cheap ciggies nor cheap seafood if i have to risk my life even a lil bit. thus, no JB for me. recent trip due to work. wanted to fly up but friend asked for a favour, so no choice but to drive up. let the m'sian govt sort it out first then decide what to do. with the new hub coming up, think they will be more anxious to sort such matters out.

as for yr question on stopping the wrong car, well... all i can say is that even for big shot underworld bosses, if they r out of their own jurisdiction, they too will just be another potential victim. which is why they always stay put and hang around the same places.

Serious, is Johor really that dangerous?? I don't drive but I cycle solo on Malaysia road as least twice a month for the past few years..but nothing ever happened to me ley and is always late night..sometime, my wife goes too .no prob at all..but then...I still carry 2 knifes and pepper spray..but the question is..
