Sell 1) Bentley; and 2) Pavlyuchenko For Bentley, it is time for him to move on, maybe a swap for Jonas makes the move looked even more impressive. For Pavy, sorry, too much time is needed to blend him into the team. Probably a swap for Aruna Dindane is possible. Buy 1) Jonás Gutiérrez (Newcastle); and 2) Aruna Dindane (Portsmouth) For Jonas, he needs to play in South Africa 2010 and the Premiership is right for him. He is a suitable winger substitute for Lennon. I think it is easier now with Newcastle in the Championship. A David Ginola type of player will bring back fond memories with his ability to run at players and supply the forwards. For Aruna Dindane, he showed that he is a strong striker whom can run at just any defence. I think there is no better time to buy him because Portsmouth is in need of $$$. A bull-dozer player with great scoring ability is needed against teams like Everton, Bolton, Fulham, Blackburn, Aston Villa, Stoke, West Ham and etc... Also bring back Jamie O' Hara. We need left-sided players. Bro, This is in my previous post.

The line-up against Wigan may not be the best yet. Like you said Modric, Keane and King is still not there. Let's discuss the Wigan game a little: 1) Gomes did not have much to do, but he did concede a goal, which is more than the goalkeeper's fault. The defence went into hibernation after the third goal. Something to improve on. 2) Defence was good minus the mistake that lead to the goal. However, that was because the 2 Wigan strikers were restricted to take long shots that luckily not fatal. 3) Midfield was still not supporting defence enough, luckily Wigan had a non-existence game. Credit must be given to the midfield for the creative passing that lead to the goals. Lennon and Kranjcar were magnificent. Huddlestone and Palacios were industrials. 4) Attack, Defoe was in terrorist mode and Wigan were made to pay a high price with a high defence line, which Defoe caught them out of line/position for at least 3 times. Crouch was non-existence due to the Defoe show. However, if Crouch can adopt to situation and play Defoe's way of playing, he will be a better striker. I would suggest passing to be sharper, defence concentration must be improved (clearing to area of midfielders & strikers' preference) and shooting practices for midfield + strikers. Goalkeepers need to practise high balls, shot stopping and penalties. Now, back to Keane, Modric and King. Keane and Modric are natural diamond formation players, they thrive to play behind the main strikeforce. Keane is most deadly when he runs in on the blind side of defenders. Modric is the 'Joe Cole' of Spurs, unpredictable, creating out of the blue. I would beckon Keane to be rotated with Crouch basing on different opponents. Modric to play in the diamond behind the 2 strikers. King is a very versatile player, which many forgets. He played defensive midfield for England and he excel in this position. My present ideal formation for Spurs until January transfer window: Goalkeeper: Gomes (Cudicini as backup) Right back: Corluka (Hutton) Centreback: Dawson (King/Bassong) Centreback: Woodgate (Bassong/King) Leftback: Assou-Ekotto (Bale) Defensive Midfield: Palacios (Jenas/Huddlestone/King) Right Wing: Lennon (Kranjcar/Modric) Left Wing: Kranjcar (Lennon/O'Hara) Attacking Midfield: Modric (Huddlestone/Jenas) 2nd Striker: Crouch (Keane) Main Striker: Defoe (Keane/Crouch) Just my 2 cents worth of opinion. Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
9-1
the 2nd highest hammering in the premier league since man utd defeated my beloved ipswich 9-0. Peter Crouch opened the scoring in Tottenham's rescheduled game against Wigan. Little did he know what was to follow... Jermain Defoe equalled Andy Cole and Alan Shearer's record of scoring five goals in one game as he destroyed the Wigan defence in the second-half. |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
This week Spurs away to Aston Villa. This season only Wigan, Spurs' last opponent, is able to win at Villa Park so far.
Ashley Young face-off with Lennon; Milner face-off with Kranjcar; Heskey/Carew and Agbonlahor against probably Dawson and Woodgate; Cuellar and Richard Dunne square-up against probably Keane and Defoe. I would suggest to play Keane alongside Defoe because of Richard Dunne's tenacy of concentration lapse. Keane's ability to run in behind defence will be a plus point. Played ball on the ground will make Dunne and Cuellar more or less redundant. Lennon and Kranjcar must attack to make Young and Milner stay in defend. Huddlestone must curb Petrov and Jenas must keep Sidewell busy. Corluka and Assou Ekotto must be wary of Luke Young and Stephen Warnock's run. Gomes must be strong and accurate with high balls. Just my 2 cents worth. COMON YOU SPURS!!!

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
I guess Harry was only partially right. We deserved to win with the second half performance, but we deserve to be down by more than 1 goal in the opening 20-25 minutes because of our complacency.
We did pile on the pressure and although we were trying hard, but we were useless at breaking the deadlock. The main reason: Villa is a capable team both in defend and attack. We have to thank Chelsea for now to stay above Arsenal by a point, no forgetting the Gunners have a game in hand. We have to move on to the Carling Cup tie with Man U now. We do not have a fantastic record against Man U. However, teams like Burnley has shown that Man U is defeatable. Closing them down efficiently and reduce the number of forced and unforced passing error. The diamond Chelsea has successfully, twice, put away Man U and I guess that is why Harry have been trying to get the players to adopt to that system earlier. My suggestion for team selection for Carling Cup will be: Goalkeeper - Gomes Leftback - Bale Centreback - Woodgate Centreback - Dawson (but I guess Harry will be using Bassong) Rightback - Hutton Defensive Midfield - Huddlestone Left Wing - Kranjcar Right Wing - Lennon Attacking Midfield - Jenas 2nd Striker - Crouch Main Striker - Defoe Use Crouch to trouble the Man U centrebacks and Defoe to run on the blindside; Lennon and Kranjcar to keep Man U leftback and rightback at bay; Jenas to create and keep Fletcher busy; Huddlestone to keep a close eye on Scholes; Woodgate on Rooney and Dawson on Berbatov/Owen; Hutton must keep Giggs at bay while Bale keep pace with Nani. Hopefully, we will win and maybe another shot at Aston Villa in the Semi-final. COMON YOU SPURS!!!

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Spurs are in a fine form recently. As long as the key players are not out injured 4 too long & the defense continue to perform as well as they did against Villa, I boldly predict that we have a very realistic chance to make it into the top 4,

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Quote:
That is what all Spurs' fans wanted for the past 5-6 years. I would look at getting to 40 first than top 4 first, i.e. reaching the 40 points mark as soon as possible first. For the past 3 season the 4th position teams' points are: 06/07 season - 68 points (Goal Difference = 28; Goals Score = 63; Goals Against = 35) 07/08 season - 76 pts (GD = 39; GS = 67; GA = 28) 08/09 season - 72 pts (GD = 31; GS = 68; GA = 37) Average point for 4th position team from the last season is 72 pts, with average GD of about 33; GS = 66; GA = 33.3. We are currently at 26 points from 14 games, i.e. 1.857 points per game, hence, to reach 72 points we need 25 games (round-off), in total 39 games, which still mean our current form may not be enough. Basing on our current GD of 14 from 14 games, we average 1 GD/game, which will extra-polate to 38 GD. As for GS, we are currently at 33, which is more than healthy and we can exceed that, luckily with the 9 goals against Wigan. However, we are conceding too much, 19 goals from 14 games, which average 1.357 goals/game. For the past 3 seasons, the 4th position teams conceded an average of 0.876 goals/game. Therefore, our foremost target is to win games to average 2 points/game; keep scoring average at 1.5 goals/game; and bring down the conceding average to 0.5 goals/game. COMON YOU SPURS!!!

Below is the Carling Cup report from ESPNSoccernet:
Report: Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur - English Carling Cup - ESPN Soccernet It is time to move on after this defeat. It may be a blessing in disguise as we will have more time to concentrate on the Premier League. Next up, Everton at Goodison Park this Sunday. Hope that they can transform the Man U youngster defeat to a positive result at Goodison Park. COMON YOU SPURS!!!

That's why it is called the "HOT" seat. Harry has wealth of experience, but if the players are not committed, they should go. I have always stated that Bentley is too concerned about his hairstyle than the team/football. Harry should try asking him to shave bald and if he refuse, it is a clear sign of his relunctancy to place the team above his personal appearance. Bale, whom I feel he is badly influenced by Bentley. So getting rid of Bentley will help the youngsters more than you can imagine. Whenever Bale plays, he is mostly on a loosing Spurs team, except for 1 match, where he comes on as a substitute. We played against youngster and lost by 2 goals. What more can we say about being in the top 4?!!! I rest my case... COMON YOU SPURS!!!

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Match report from ESPNSoccernet
Report: Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur - English Premier League - ESPN Soccernet I guess the players have not picked themselves up after the Carling Cup lost to Man U. They looked contented to settle after 2-0 lead. Once again, Bale has not featured in a Premiership win. Strange but it is the fact, at least to-date. COMON YOU SPURS!!!

alamak... why and how defoe can shoot a low shot straight to the middle is fucked up lah. he should learn from penalty experts like pirlo and lampard. Tottenham's Jermain Defoe celebrates his opening goal in the 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park. Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard saves Jermain Defoe's last minute penalty. |
