Guys, think i must sit down and kopi and learn from you masters soon! Cannot make out the entire sms, but i reckon it goes something like "thank you for your help, i appreciate it very much?"

no need to sit down for kopi and learn tieng viet.
you are already very good at it as you interpreted most of the sms yourself.

no la, there's still much to learn! Have been reading some books and using pocket dictionary these few months! If got the chance, must kopi with you guys!

I borrowed a friends motorbike last week, and out of an impulse I started chatting with a girl:

By the time I had written the first 2 lines I already got a reply..."big surprise...what...you bought an airplane"? (vn girls may actually believe we non-vietnamese have a habit of regularly buying airplanes)

by the time I mentioned the Honda brand she was laughing, and replied: "Let me try that airplane, ok? Let's go flying together"

I have since used this pattern in txt messages as well...works like a charm...all girls seem to think it's funny, and 2 out of 3 times they will ask you to go flying.

On the occasion of the upcoming mid-autumn, a small poem for the expert brothers here...tôi viết cho các anh nhân dịp Tết Trung Thu:

Trung Thu là Tết thiếu nhi
Có sao người lớn lại đi la cà

The key sentence in bold. Here are some explanations, this is what I needed to look up:

thiếu nhi=trẻ con
đi la cà=đi chơi
họ (as in family name)=they (the couple)
làm liều=to take a risk (not to be able to control oneself, in this case)
qui luật=to rule (luật alone is law of course)
muôn đời=forever (literally "thousand lives" I think)

if there's spelling mistakes they are all my fault...I'm trying to learn the Mac's built-in vietnamese font
