windows password recovery softwares are easily available over the net. Do not underestimate your wife. Your kid may be even smarter than you think.

Totally agree with you.. I once downloaded ERD for win xp. All i need to do is boot from CD than root account ( Administrator ) can access liao. all the files in the HDD can be open regardless of the file permission and stuff.

just to share, i used to have this girlfriend whom looks innocent but she's one of most intelligent humans I have ever known. dated her during uni days. I formatted my laptop and she said she needs it for a couple of months due to her school stuffs. lent it to her. guess what she did after 2 weeks? She send me an sms saying " i'm surprised you don't watch porn at all"
i was like " huh? "
she went on asking me "who is Maycie", "so you have been secretly clubbing without my knowledge huh?" and "you call almost every girl dear on your msn eh?"

i was still "huh?"

went over her place, she showed me my very OWN laptop that i thought it was formatted and there in some stupid program, it shows my every single conversation. Funny though, I have not even save any conversations to logs. Surprised how she managed to retrieve my chat files (even after i formatted my computer )

she just smiled and say " well at least you didn't watch porn. that's a good thing"

i was so embarassed. thank god i lent her the laptop I used for my school work, and not my desktop. phew!
she's my first ang moh ex-gf and she's so smart, after graduation, I have never seen her again. Last I have heard from her friends was she is currently working for Google. Damn.

For those who doesn't know how to purge the MSN history files, please follow the steps below:

1. Click on Tools then Options
2. Select Messages on the left hand pane
3. Under Message History, make sure Automatically keep a history of my conversations is not ticked. (Note: By default, MSN does not enable message history).
4. Take note of the 'Save my conversations in this folder:" location. THAT is where your history files are located.
5. Go to that path and delete all files.
6. Remember to empty your recycle bin.

For Yahoo:

1. Click on Messenger then Preferences
2. Select Archive on the left hand pane
3. Under Archive, click on "No, do not save any of my messages"
4. Click on Clear Archive Now button to clean up your messenges.
5. For those who make calls using Yahoo, you can do the same at the options below the messenges options.

In my case, I gotten a brand new notebook for my gf. (Although she is an IT idiot), Configured the notebook according to her taste, but I left an admin account inside her computer, so that I can login without using her ID anytime I like.

However, for my own notebook and desktop, I put a BIOS password on top of locking up my computer with a lock. As for my notebook, I have a smart card encryption key that doesn't allows anyone to view the data that I specified if it is logged on without the card.

Those who rely on Windows security to safe keep their data are looking for trouble. Especially for bros with a IT savvy partner, they can crack your passwords in a matter of minutes and recover any deleted data without breaking a sweat.

For those who cannot afford having so many different computers, the second best would be to get the latest Mac (for the WOW factor) and load Windows on it. So you uses Mac (of course with passwords!!!) and your partner uses Windows... Hmmm... maybe I should get one myself...
