The doctor cut the area above the heels because there are pulses there, it is actually closer to the achilles tendon. The dead inmate's wrist would also be cut if I'm not wrong. All these cuttings on the pulses are to ensure the inmate is really dead before they release the body from the noose. |

Re: 164 Days in Singapore Changi Prison
I think he is refering to the record that you can purchase from the CID..... some minor offences will not be reflected on the good conduct certificate if you have been a good boy for the past 5 years ....... but of course it will still be in the CRO records.

Re: 164 Days in Singapore Changi Prison
In prisons in Thailand, inmates sleep cheek by jowl. They sleep touching each other, like sardins in a can. You cannot see the floor. It is covered by sleeping bodies. The inmates do not wear prison uniforms. I saw a photo years ago.
Some other things about prison life. In military detention barracks in Singapore, each night, detainees' anuses are checked for contraband and also to dehumanise them. I have seen detainees in the School of Basic Military Training, Sembawang, lining up to get toothpaste put on their toothbrushes by a Military Police. Their tattered and torn detainee tshirts smell horrible. They sleep in hunched up, half sitting position on the floor with other detainees in cages. In the day they march around with full packs filled with sand. Really 'jialat'. Some of this I heard, some I saw. Any comments? |

Re: 164 Days in Singapore Changi Prison
I've heard that in the past, the biggest challenge in our civilian prisons is boredom. The military prisons are tough because part of the rationale of military detention is to toughen up the soldiers even though sadism on the part of the authorities has something to do with it too.

As for what I learnt inside RTC, well had hell of a body, still remember doing 1000 push ups, carry water pails and sit ups, The main deal is to be "big" and know the basics of 1-2 -1 fighting which I did. So got into a fight before, lost to the other chap, but he end up teaching me how to fight. So am rather sure to handle myself and if needed to fight with RTC boy, no fun la. Saw so many fights in there. As there are many boys in there, gang related or non gang releated, everyone will pick up something along the way. For me, thought smoking was cool, so when I was released, I now smoke, but I do enjoy the smoke with beers esp hahahha. Then there is the druggie cases, heard bout the glue sniffing, tablets, drugs, "MARY" and other stumilents to get a person high. I never tried any of those as not my cup of tea, though have tried "mary" before, and as a juvenile in there, who is "a saih" outside whom comes on to RTC will be looked aftered and word will be passed around that he is a "memeber" and it's a walk in the park for them. But during my stint there, met alot of nice inmates la, they are not as bad as they seem but there are some guys whom really are out to prove something to others. These, you steer clear. So in short yes, RTC did not really help the inmates for many ppl from my batch, has been in and out of prison and their crimes escalate to more hard core types which put them behind bars for a long time. To date I have only seen 3-4 inmates in SIN but other than that, have not seen any or heard of their well being. Sad but true, RTC it's like a place where you will pick up vices and if to weak to resist the morale issuies of not doing well, then they will end up to CP and DRC with long sentences. Well that is my take on the rehab programme in RTC. There are more things to share if any of you are keen to know la. |

Went in there in 95 and out in 98 took my 3 strokes in 97 and have been enjoying my freedom since then. Never too late to turn back bro, cos determination to succeed is my primay goal, and all the more when ppl say cannot be done, got to try harder to prove them wrong. Cos only a very small group of ppl know I am a ex con, that includes my company. But they do not in any manner see me diffrently. All I tell myself is that how I conduct myself, my manners, and my speech to ppl, they will be able to understand where I am coming from and if they ever knew I was a ex con, reckon they will think it is a joke. Bit by bit I trust that all ex cons can be rehab, if given a chance by the society and just block out the past, (I know it's not easy to block out) and we can all move forward. Best of luck man. if wan to talk further PM me la. |
