Company to provide free Wi-Fi at Tet flower markets across Vietnam

Visitors to flower markets in some of Vietnam’s major cities during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday will be able to stay connected thanks to the free Wi-Fi service provided by a Ho Chi Minh City-based telecom firm.

Saigon Postel Corp said on Wednesday its S-wifi service would be available at flower markets in Hanoi, Can Tho, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City throughout the holiday, which begins late next week.

In Hanoi, S-wifi will cover the flower markets on Lac Long Quan, Hang Luoc and Hoang Hoa Tham Streets, as well as the flower fairs on Quang Hoa, Quang Ba, and Nhat Tan.

In Ho Chi Minh City, flower markets will be held at such parks as Tao Dan, Gia Dinh, Le Thi Rieng and Le Van Tam, besides the Quoc Te Square, all of which will feature free Wi-Fi.

As for the iconic Nguyen Hue Flower Street, running from January 25 to 31, Saigon Postel Corp said it woud install 15 Wi-Fi hotpots along the promenade.
In the coastal city of Nha Trang in south-central Vietnam, S-wifi will cover the beach-front Tran Phu Street and Yen Phi Park.

The flower markets at Ninh Kieu Wharf and Vo Van Tan and Hoang Van Thu Streets in the southern city of Can Tho will also have free Wi-Fi access.

Saigon Postel Corp began launching its S-wifi service at Tet flower markets in 2015 and has since got positive feedback from locals and tourists.

In the 2016 Tet, more than one million users got access to the Internet for free via S-wifi, the company said.

This year the firm has installed more hotpots and assigned personnel to respond timely to any technical problems.

S-wifi is now offered in 14 provinces across Vietnam, mostly at public places such as hospitals, schools and residential areas, with more than 12 million users.

Swerving through Saigon traffic with new smart phone app

Plan your route to avoid getting stuck in the city's congestion hot-spots.

A mobile app launched today is allowing Saigoneers access to up-to-the-minute traffic reports from all across Ho Chi Minh City.

The application, named TTGT TP HCM, was launched by the city's transport department, and allows users to get traffic updates before choosing a route and provides information about nearby parking lots.

The department said that data for the app is collected from 300 surveillance cameras installed along the city's streets.

The app is now available on App Store (for iOS devices) and Google Play (for Android devices).

In addition to the mobile app, the transport department has also launched a website at http://giaothong.hochiminhcity.gov.vn/ to give people access to traffic reports.

With around 12 million people, Ho Chi Minh City is looking at various methods to solve its severe traffic congestion, especially during rush hour.

The city is thinking about making some main streets one-way, building elevated roads and even banning private vehicles from downtown areas to ease congestion.

Statistic show that about 8.8 million motorcycles are currently running on just more than 4,000 kilometers of roads, not to mention private cars and bicycles. Nearly 4,200 new cars and 9,000 new motorbikes are registered every month, while public transport is limited to buses.

5 Vietnamese women rescued from forced prostitution in Malaysia

Police said they were trafficking victims and had been forced to work as prostitutes in Malacca for 10 months.

Police in Malaysia’s tourist town of Malacca rescued five Vietnamese women on Tuesday following a raid on a prostitution den.

Kamaluddin Kassim, chief assistant commissioner of the Malacca Criminal Investigations Department, told the News Strait Times that they had found the five Vietnamese women along with three Thai women who had been used as prostitutes at the brothel for the past 10 months.

The raid was conducted following two weeks of surveillance at the premises. A 64-year-old caretaker was also detained.

Kamaluddin said the women will be sent to a detention center before referring them to Immigration Department officials who will help them return home.

The number of Vietnamese trafficking victims surged a staggering 13 percent in 2016 to 1,128, according to police reports.

Most were sold to men seeking wives in China, Malaysia and South Korea, or just to bear children or work as prostitutes in those countries.

According to the United Nations, a third of trafficked women and children are from Southeast Asia.

Already say liao, I no jio anymore is I wait for people to jio me liao cos most of this outings is orguinice by others anyway even if have you also cannot go cos it normally starts at 11pm to 3am which at 1am my eyes already half-closed liao
