Today, it is Pa’s 60th year old birthday. The family decided to hold a banquet for him. It is held at a 5 star hotel. It is quite a grand event where all the staffs and business associates are invited to this event. Mary and I reached there earlier so I hang around the area with Ah Seng and Ah Huat.

“Boss, tonight got so many chiobu leh,” Ah Huat said. “This type of event is for all the gals to show off their assets,” I said. “Look…Chairman and his wife is here,” Ah Seng said. Pa arrived with Susan. Wah Susan is wearing a bustier dress today showing off her huge assets. “Wah sibei tua liap leh,” exclaimed Ah Huat. “Chairman is so fortunate,” said Ah Seng. Soon Erica and Albert arrived. Even though, they are not together, they tried to act as though nothing has happened. This is to save “face” for the family. Pa’s eyes are wide-awake…the raunchy scene of him and Erica is shown live in front of him. He quickly deleted the clip. “You bastard,” he said. “You can delete no problem…but you can’t delete the copy that is going to play in the banquet,” I said. “YOU…You better know what you are doing,” Pa said. “I know…all the staffs…business associates…relatives will know what a dirty old man you are by lusting after your own daughter-in-law…” I said. “Your reputation will be gone and you will be a laughing stock,” I added. “You son of the bitch…” Pa said. “You can say anything you want,” I laughed.
“What do you want,” Pa asked. “If you need to beg someone, your tone should be more polite,” I said. “Ok, David tell me what you want,” Pa said taking the humble pie. “A smart person like you will know what I want,” I said. “Ok David, I will give you $1mil to buy the video from you,” said Pa. “It is generous of you to do that but I guess it is not enough, you mean your reputation is worth only $1mil,” I said sarcastically. “Then maybe you tell me what you want,” Pa asked.

I throw the file I am carrying on the side table besides us. “Sign this document,” I said. Pa read through the documents carefully and said, “David, you must be nuts, I will not transfer my shareholdings in the company to you,” he said. “Pa you are old already why don’t you just retire. Anyway, I will be giving you $30k per month as long as the company is making profits,” I said. “No…No…I can’t agree to your request,” Pa said. “Ok…SHOWTIME!” I said as I stand up.

“Wait a minute David, I have one request, if I transfer my shares to you, can you keep this as a secret,” Pa asked. “Ok, as long as I am getting the profits and power I want, I don’t mind,” I said. “Ok…fine,” Pa said as he signs the document reluctantly…

“Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for attending our chairman, Mr Tan 60th birthday dinner, may I invite our chairman, Mr Tan to give a speech,” Erica said. Pa walks up the stage. “Dear friends…business associate…and family members, thank you for coming…” Pa went on to talk about our company’s performance etc. I am just waiting for the time to come. “As all of you are aware, I am getting old. I would like to pass the baton to the younger generation…I would like to use this opportunity to announce that I will appoint David, my son-in-law as the new CEO and deputy Chairman of the company…” A moment of silence surrounds the banquet. Everyone is shocked. Albert leaped from his seat and Erica was astonished. Soon everyone is looking at me.

I stood up and take a slight bow to the audience…I made it…I made it…I tell myself. The day has come for Tan Ah Beng to shine and stand tall with his head up. The audience starts to clap. I can see that Ah Seng and Ah Huat is clapping and over with joy…
