(1) If you marry Viet gal and still stay in Singapore, then make yr gal learn mandarin and english. Better for you and her

(2) If you marry Viet gal and stay in Vietnam, then you learn Tieng Viet, Better for you.

Simple and practical.

Well, my nightmare began 8 years ago. My wife-to-be was below 21 and that was a problem to ROM in Singapore. We decided to ROM in HCMC and asked the Embassy for help. No problems, they said. They actually had a printed form to guide us. What could be easier : Go to the following Government Depts A, B, C, D, E. Follow their guidelines and walah, it's done.

My future wife and I went to Dept A the following morning. They told us to go to B first. We went to B and they told us to go to C. And on and on until we arrived at A again.

WTF! We tried and tried till we gave up. Enough is enough. Finally, her mum stepped in. Apparently, there's a system of under table that we completely ignored. We need to go through the so called 'Agents' who can pay all these. My in law introduced me to one and we negotiated. At the end, US $400. Ok, pay lah. Filled up all forms and return to Singapore. Agent called me to say no problems. Will take 3 months. I replied "Huh, so long. Can faster or not?"

Agent replied no problems, pay only. I asked how much. Another US$ 200.

Done! I said. 2 weeks later I received a call to come back and sign the documents. Altho troublesome (blood test, go to province to sign, etc), everything was smooth. Total damage = US $600. Worth every cent I think.

anyway, the $160 you spent is because you 'bao' or book the car ma....there is a cheaper alternative by taking the bus (not those lao kok kok 40 seaters) but the 15 seaters Mercedes Vito converted bus...per person is around 15-20 dollars i think...

of course, you have to take into account the after marriage expenses...like i always say and bro singviet also adviced...talk to her about her expectations after marriage.. let her know how much you earn, what expenses you have here in SG and tell her you cannot provide for her whole family...they have to earn their keep! but you dun mind sending back money once in a while but strictly to her parents for household expenses...things like new motor, hi-fi, are out of question.....

over and above all, tell her what marriage means to you and ask her what it means to her....TALK, COMMUNICATE! its between you and her...no bros here will know her better than yourself...you get the idea???

Bro, you better not try that unless you are very familiar with Vietnam. These buses are not very safe. Once you fall asleep, there's a high chance that you will wake up to realise that yr wallet is missing. There's a bus interchange at District 6 that serves all the southern mekong delta province

Errrr....i do have the number for their outlets...you can just call and tell them where to pick you up..they normally have many such vans around the whole country and they will slot you in on one that is along a particular route that is on your way..

like what bro SingViet adviced.....and my own advice...'BETTER NOT'

1st you cannot speak vietnamese, thats the no 1 give away that you are not local and this will alert the pickpockets that ply their trade on these van-buses...even my wife's sister (vietnamese) is wary of such people when she takes such transports...needless to say us non-locals....

2nd, from HCMC to an giang is almost 6 hours travelling time. thats a long time for these people to wait for you to doze off and do their act...and they might just conveniently drop themselves off along the way..

3rd, langauge barrier la...like i said an giang or even the province is damn big...not like our geylang, jurong east or even ang mo kio....you need to know exactly where you want the driver to drop you off....even till today i dunno how to tell them...haha..
if you dunno then you might find yourself 'hollanded' and i can tell you...getting lost in an giang and getting lost in HCMC is two very different thing....NO JOKE In HCMC, you can get help easily.....in an giang or cho moi or kien giang or wherever you intend to go, you will only find 0.5 out of 10 people who can speak english and even that half person's english is like your level of vietnamese....you get my point????

In the end, you might really give her a surprise...a very malu one where you call her to come find you at some ulu roadside cafe...

but like i always like to preach, the decision is yours, its up to you la....pm me if you want the number...

Yes, I agreed with other bro. So far, i m only familar with hcmc, d1 only after several visits and have ride motor myself to visit those disco and cafe... once i go to d3, d5 or .. i lost my way... Since u cant speak viet then it will be more disadvantageous for u....

bro, this kind of trip is not like waiting downstair of some Raffles place office building with a bunch of rose and box of chocalate on 14th Feb. Even thier locals who travel long distance also take precaution.
