No. No. It will be shouts of "Bramble replace Ferdinand!" "Parker for Lampard!" "Bring back Butt!" Tony Blair claimed to be a Toon supporter.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
dedicated to bro AXL, a tribute to Chris Waddle, another midfield wizard in the class of gazza and hoddle.
honestly i remember him more for his playing days with sheffield wednesday. perhaps it is becos we got more tv coverage of english soccer during the early 90s, the time when he went back to england to join sheff wed from marseille. waddle is a terror on the right flank, i've watched him squeezed thru a few opponents the same way matt le tissier did it. he's a big player but nothing slows him down, just count the number of fine crosses from him in every match he played. 1985-1989 POSITION Winger DATE OF BIRTH Wednesday, 14th December 1960 PLACE OF BIRTH Hepworth, Tyne & Wear, England LEAGUE DEBUT Saturday, 17th August 1985 scoring twice in a 4-0 win over Watford (Aged: 24) CLUB CAREER 137 League apps (+1 as sub), 33 goals Chris Waddle made his league debut at St. James' Park against Shrewsbury Town on the 22nd of October 1980 and quickly established himself in the Magpies' side, playing alongside Kevin Keegan and Peter Beardsley as Newcastle won promotion to Division One in the 1983-84 season. He was called up for the England Under-21 side and soon made the full squad, making his debut against the Republic of Ireland in March 1985. After 46 goals in 170 games for Newcastle, Waddle moved to Tottenham Hotspur in July 1985 for a fee of £590,000. At Tottenham he established himself as a regular in the England team, playing in the side that reached the quarter finals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico linking up again with Beardsley. After the World Cup he enjoyed his most productive season. He won an FA Cup runners-up medal in 1987 when Spurs were beaten by Coventry, while they also finished third in the League and got to the semi-finals of the League Cup. In 1988, he was in the England side which lost all three group games in the European Championships. In July 1989, after scoring 33 times in 138 appearances for Tottenham, Waddle moved to Olympique de Marseille for a fee of £4.5 million, the third highest fee in history at that time. In a team of stars he was one of the top players, and during his time there the club were French champions three times (1990, 1991 and 1992). |

Tottenham look to scupper Real's plans to sign Metzelder
Last updated at 13:56pm on 28th March 2007 Ambitious Tottenham want to strengthen their defence in the summer by hijacking Christoph Metzelder's move to Real Madrid. The Borussia Dortmund centre-half is a free agent at the end of the season and is looking for a fresh challenge. Spurs are keen as they want to improve their resources at the back with concerns about Ledley King's long-term fitness still lingering. They realise a move to La Liga is an attractive proposition for the Germany international but it is not certain that Real Madrid will press ahead with the move. Fabio Capello is far from certain to stay in charge at the Bernabeu and club president Ramon Calderon said: "I'm not aware that any deal has been done yet but the club's technical staff like Christoph Metzelder and he will be out of contract at the end of the season. If he does decide to come he will sign a three-year deal." That leaves the door open for Tottenham to offer Metzelder a similar deal with the option for a fourth season at around £30,000 a week. Spurs also remain interested in West Brom defender Curtis Davies although the £10million price tag placed on him by the baggies may seek them to look for cheaper alternatives. And any new arrival is likely to signal the end of Anthony Gardner's spell at White Hart Lane. He has been unable to force his way past King and Michael Dawson into Martin Jol's first-team plans and is also behind new arrival Riccardo Rocha although he is considered a more than dependable squad member. If Gardner is allowed to leave there will be no shortage of takers with Birmingham interested in signing him along with Portsmouth and West Ham.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Waddle- One of my heroes. Perhaps the reason I supported Spurs back then.
Metzelder - U sure or not? He is top class and would he want to join us instead of the mighty Real Madrid. But if he were to join us, then EXCELLENT! |

Jol: England's loss is Spurs' gain
Last updated at 17:16pm on 29th March 2007 Martin Jol believes Tottenham will benefit from Jermaine Jenas and Michael Dawson being left out of the England squad for the double-header against Israel and Andorra. Spurs' clash against Reading on Sunday will be their 50th match this season, of which Dawson has featured in 49, while Jenas spent two months out with a fractured ankle and is now running back into form. "It is why I wasn't gutted that Jermaine Jenas wasn't named in the England squad, probably for the first time in a good while, along with Michael Dawson, because they - particularly Michael - needed that rest from games," said Dutchman Jol on the club's official website www.tottenhamhotspur.com. Centre-back Dawson has only missed one game, through suspension, as skipper Ledley King has been on the sidelines since Boxing Day with problems with his feet. King was ruled out for six to eight weeks at the start of February and, although Spurs refuse to rush him back to action following setbacks in his rehabilitation earlier in the campaign, they are confident of the defender playing again this season. Dawson, 23, has taken on the role of defensive leader in King's absence and has always insisted he would rather be on the pitch than back at Spurs Lodge on the training pitch. "I've always loved playing games, I'd rather have loads of games and less training," Dawson said.
