Again, try to drive a bike in Holland (from where that guy in Bali comes from), or Switzerland, or USA, without helmet and driving license, then tell me. If you cannot travel so far, try that in Singapore . I believe the consequences will be the same:
- big fine (100-200 USD I guess)
- possibly bike confiscated until you don't go take your driver license and exhibit to a police office.

The difference here is that the policeman is not honest, and instead of applying the Law asks for a bribe to close eyes and do not prosecute the guilty.

The bottom line is: if you travel from Holland to Indonesia, for what fucking reason you should expect that the same Law you are mandated to obey in your country is not valid in Bali?? That is not the Far West of cowboys. Wear a helmet and bring your driver license.
(Yes, I drove bikes in Batam a few times, to bring back girls who were too drunk to drive. I did not have helmet and I crossed my fingers, but if police stops I must accept that)

Anyways, I don't think they have such a law to limit the number of days per year. For the past 3-4 years, I probably spent more than 180-200 days per year in Batam; haven't had any Batam immigration officers stop or question me yet. The most is upon my departure, they might just casually ask me why I was here for 2-3 weeks, that's all. I give them my reasons and they just go "okay".

In my opinion, it's primarily because we are here to spend money, versus in Singapore whereby in your example, people are likely to go there to earn money. This is the different between first world and third world countries.

For my annual trip to the Philippines Mt. Province. I even left my PP, credit card, my good handphone in Angeles.
Only carry copy of PP, PNB ATM Card and a old phone up hill.

It can only accommodate 57 sets

I think you guys are smokers, so you have no idea how annoying and disgusting is the smell of smoke for non-smokers. Evening kissing a smoking girl for a non-smoker is not a pleasant experience.

If you smoke in a room, just one cigarette, the room will be contaminated with the smoke smell and it will be very difficult to clean it.
A non-smoker will reject the room, and, if forced to stay there, will never go back to that hotel.
In high-class hotels, if you smoke in a non-smoking room, they charge you something like 150-250 USD additional fee for cleaning it, which is a long and complex process (this is normal policy in Europe or USA, I bet also in KL or Singapore).

No need of a smoke detector (this is not a plane): the nose of anyone entering the room is enough.
