You must be mad to think that private hospitals cater to the middle class. My cardiologist in Mount Elizabeth charge enough to give people heart attacks. Even if you earn 15 or 20k a month, you won't throw it away by doing a $700 blood test + report. Even if your individual monthly income is $20k, you're only worth $67 per hour (assuming that you work 12 hours everyday, 25 days a month). 3 hours wait is nothing compared to the amount of money you save by going to restructured hospitals.

Middle income should be able to live comfortably in Singapore today with
1. 3-5 room BTO flat in non-matured estates
2. Bus or train everywhere. Don't waste money on taxi unless absolutely necessary
3. Home cooked meals or normal hawker/ food court fare. Lower end family restaurants (Astons or Tim Ho Wan type not Swensens/ Imperal Treasure) maybe twice a month. Don't eat luxury items like crab. I'm sure there are still those 3 packet for $10 durians out there. Mai hiam
4. Go to government hospitals/ Polyclinic/ neighbourhood clinic when you're sick (definitely not private hospitals or clinics in Camden)
5. Send your kids to government schools.

And most importantly, don't complain when you have $700k of savings waiting for when you retire! I know of middle income families who live day by day because they don't manage their spendings. They most definitely don't have $700k savings.

But surely that loser is entitled a right to exist. A society that with hard nose meritocracy just means you may be the next to be weeded out when more able people appear.

Yes, a mindset change is in order if you don't want to be that last person running from a relentless bear.

Has the loser lost his right to exist? Are you a loser? Not when your family income is a comfortable 10+k and you have $700k in savings. People in your position don't complain and neither do they claim to be losers.

Nobody is suggesting that losers should be exterminated.

All I'm saying is that those who struggle to make ends meet with the PAP is charge will still be struggling if another political party wins the next election.

I've live in NZ and OZ for the last 2 decades and both countries have established welfare systems and governments in both countries change on a regular basis.

However, the poor part of town looks exactly the same regardless of who wins each election because there is no change in the mindsets of the people who live there.

Every election campaign has the same theme. Every party promises to eliminate poverty. After the election, nothing changes because no matter how much you give in welfare handouts, the losers continue to misuse and mismanage whatever handouts they receive.

The 80/20 rule applies in every society. The capable 20% see all problems as opportunities. The masses view all problems as obstacles.

He means... The mindset of the people have to change. There's nothing the leaders can do if the people refuse to change their thinking.

Unless you're suggesting that the government make car ownership more affordable. Scrap PARF, no more COE no more road tax no more fuel tax no more nothing. Then the traffic jams on our roads will be worse.

Look at this this way. Are you a born citizen here? Tell me the combat unit you served with? I used to be part of the elite in our system. Then I remembered kissing the ground doing push ups when I was 18. I looked around and saw brothers around me. They were less able intellectually but they were still my brothers.
