Not sure where to post this so hope I don't get zap or anything.

My external hard disk died on me (light just stopped blinking and laptop couldn't detect anymore)... which means all my precious collections of Jap AVs (mostly of big busted babes) which I mostly downloaded from here also died.

Just wondering if any IT bros here got the expertise to help retrieve those files... in the meantime can help yourself to it as well.

do you hear a clicking sound when the drive is plugged in?
can you feel the drive spinning inside?
any other weird noises?
how old is the drive?

Initially got clicking sound and like its spinning.

But the next day I tried, sometimes there is and sometimes there isn't. Even the folder also doesnt show up at the laptop folder now...

sounds like my old drive .. is the cable loose? usually the cable tend to be loose at the drive side.
how old is the drive?
did you drop it before?

it seems to be a disk head failure but need more details as above

Drive is about 2 yrs old.
I tried with other cables also doesn't help.
Don't remember dropping it but maybe it did when put in the bag and got bumped around...

Sigh. Thinking of sending to IT shop but paiseh or worse, Kenna report to police lol!

yup it looks like disk head failure to me.
unfortunately it is a very expensive process to recover the data.
-involves a opening the drive in a clean room and reading the data off the platters directly.

wa sad, the only option you have is to redownload.. or take it to a data recovery expert, usually those that charge sky high, will recover in front of you and will not report.

always use truecrypt to encrypt your seafood next time

i checked online, most of those are not sg based.

one last question, can you see your device in device manager at all?
right click my computer-> manage -> storage -> disk management

if it appears there, i may be able to help you.

Bro you can try to get the external ide/sata connector from sim lim square... cost around 30 bucks... just ask around.., think the shop assistant will gladly help you... I got mine around there also... and then take out your hdd from your spoilt enclosure and try to connect... see if it works.... sometime its the usb not enough power to power up your drive.... or you can try on another computer to see if it is still working

There's a very high possibilities that the drive motor is a little jammed and thus it couldn't moves. Try by playing with the connector in and out a few times to jump-start the motor.

I've dismantled a dead harddisk before and tested in this manner and the motor starts spinning.
