Najib: Give Anwar adequate treatment

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said he was aware of former opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's health and wanted the relevant authorities to ensure he receives adequate treatment.

The premier tweeted this following reports that Anwar's health was becoming worse as he serves his time in Sungai Buloh Prison.

PKR lawyer R. Sivarasa said Anwar should be immediately transferred to house arrest and also be permitted to visit his own doctors for regular medical care and treatment while under house arrest.

He said the cause of Anwar's rapidly deteriorating health was due to him not being provided access to treatments required to treat his health conditions in the prison.

"On June 2, 2015, after a four-week delay from when the prison requested his transfer to a hospital, he was evaluated by Kuala Lumpur Hospital in a two-day visit," he said.

"The doctors reported to him verbally that he requires further evaluation and treatment relating a number of medical issues including irregular blood pressure, a 4cm growth on his kidney – requiring a CT scan, gastritis – requiring a gluten-free diet, and a shoulder muscle tear and chronic arthritis – requiring intensive physiotherapy," he added.

The statement was jointly signed by Sivarasa and Jared Genser of Freedom Now, an organisation that advocates for prisoners of conscience worldwide.
