Thumbs up MOE screws up again?

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Everytime compare which schools are better than others!

DECEMBER 23, 2015
SINGAPORE – Seven secondary schools that did not have enough demand from students in their area will not be receiving any Secondary 1 students next year.

The seven schools are Balestier Hill Secondary School, Henderson Secondary School, MacPherson Secondary School, North View Secondary School, Pioneer Secondary School, Siglap Secondary School, and Si Ling Secondary School, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said today (Dec 23) in a media statement.

This is due to the trend of falling cohort sizes of secondary school-going children, which resulted in fewer students being posted to some secondary schools, the Ministry said.

MOE said low enrolment schools may find it more challenging to offer a wide range of educational programmes and co-curricular activities (CCAs) for its students. As such, the Ministry is currently looking into the possible need to merge a number of low enrolment schools with another school.

This is “to ensure a critical mass for the schools to provide a good educational experience for their students”, MOE added.

The Ministry will release more details on the plans for mergers in early 2016.
