Thumbs up Serious KL's MRT Phase One to start operations Tomorrow!

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

69.9% Sinkies will be depressed since their bragging rights will be somewhat diminished, 30% unSinkified very happy got more choice ...........

A train every three minutes during peak hours

FROM Dec 16, Phase One of Mass Rapid Transit Sungai Buloh-Kajang (MRT SBK) will commence at 6am, with trains running until midnight on weekdays and 11pm on weekends.

During peak hours, trains are scheduled to arrive every three minutes, whereas during non-peak hours, passengers will have to wait no longer than six minutes for the next train.

The minimum fare is set at RM0.80 while the maximum is RM4.30 for those paying cash. The most expensive fare for Touch ‘n Go users, however, is RM3.70.

Senior citizens, students and the disabled can purchase their tokens at the Customer Service Office in any station and get a 50% discount.

However, MyRapid, MyRapid Smart 7 and MyRapid Smart 30 cards cannot be used at the moment and will likely only be useable once Phase 2 commences next year.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) SBK Line project director Marcus Karakashian explained that since all trains were operated from the Operation Control Centre (OCC), no drivers were needed.

“The trains are programmed to stop at the automatic platform gates, which will only open when the train arrives.

“Shoulder-height barriers between the platform and tracks are also in place to prevent people from falling or walking on the tracks,” he said.

All platforms are equipped with tactile pavements for the visually impaired while the gap between the platform and train is narrow enough for wheelchair users to get on the train safely.

There will be retail outlets such as 7Eleven and myNews.com at each station, while Japanese convenience store FamilyMart will open at the TTDI station.

In the event of an emergency, Karakashian explained that special walkways are in place to enable passengers to exit the train safely if required.

However, he emphasised that as far as possible, passengers will not be asked to walk on the tracks and a back up train would be sent to them.

Each train comprises four carriages and measures 89m, which a capacity of 1,200 passengers.

Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations director Datuk Najmuddin Abdullah also said all frontline services, ticketing and customer services will be managed by Prasarana personnel.

“From Dec 16 onwards, the main channel for enquiries and complaints will be the RapidKL Helpline at 03-7885 2585.

“The MRT Hotline will only handle construction-related issues for Phase Two of the SBK Line,” he said.

Phase Two of the SBK Line is scheduled to be operational by July 2017 with 19 more stations between Semantan and Kajang.
