Re: Vientiane,Laos
I was in Boten during the 4 day water outage;
I plugged three girls in the tin shacks and took some photo of the water outage. The photos are below.

Ironically, per your sign-off, generosity might flow like a river but in Boten water sure as hell does not. |

Re: Vientiane,Laos
Hi All,
Making my virgin trip to Vientiane early next year. Need some advise on a few questions. 1) Which streets to stay that are convenient to find local street food? 2) which hotel is good and not too expensive? 3) What currency are commonly used in Laos? 4) Is Singapore Dollars accepted in Vientiane money changers? 5) Which streets are the red light districts? Appreciate your valuable advise. Thanks Ahead. |

I usually stay in the 老挝建国大酒店 for convenience. Bring usd for all money changers.

This is also my virgin trip and I stay near the Mekong river region. I find that the vendors are very versatile and will move to where there is more people. in fact I find them everywhere.
Hotels recommendation please read the past posts.Laos used KIPs, some vendors also accept Thai bahts. Business in San jiang region might quote you in RMB. I didn't find any money changers which accept SGD. My solution is to draw from ATMs using Trust Bank card. The fx rate is good so I only suffer from the ATM charge which can vary from 20k to 100k KIPs. there is no red light DISTRICT in Laos. Everything happens hidden and with a decent front. Please go read the past posts. One last advice, don't draw too Much KIPs that you don't need as it depreciate quite fast.by the time your next trip, it would have lost a lot of it's value. Quote:

Re: Vientiane,Laos
Where to stay in VT? Chinatown or City Center?
Does Chinatown area has a lot of pubs, clubs and ktv? I heard that Grab Car is not available in Laos, so what other ‘private hire’ they used in Laos? |

Re: Vientiane,Laos
Sorry, I suppose I should introduce myself.
I'm living and working in VTE but must conceal my dirty habits from my spouse, my employer, and my colleagues. In addition to the action Max80 notes about Yaowarat 2, I've seen similar ladies in Fire Tiger next to the S. Korean embassy, apparently many Koreans like to patronize that joint. Having seen the slim young beauties there, I can understand why. As I was not alone I couldn't dig for further details. Some pages back I saw mention of Tully's Irish Pub, I can confirm that similar "entertainment" ladies prowl there as well. I'd love to take away some of the ladies from these pubs, but cannot bring them back to my place, nor do I care to identify myself at any hotels. Thus my question to Max80 about hotels by the hour. I'd also like to know whether these ladies can accommodate me back at their lodging. While BPY and @home have bit the dust, I see lots of FLs working the bars along the river near Naga Boat. Looking to exploring more if/when conditions permit. |

Download Loca. Its their version of grab. I also get a local sim because if the driver can't find u (the map is shitty) I usually call them and pass my phone to a waitress or reception at the hotel to get them to translate.

Re: Vientiane,Laos
Yes, you're right. Fire Tiger and the joint next door - Romantic has very good ladies. I patronise Romantic quite frequently. The ladies are usually students and it's not difficult getting a LT off them. Price from 1m above

Do the girls at Fire Tiger, Romantic, Yaowarat 2 know & use the hourly places and can they arrange accommodations once you’ve picked them up? I cannot show ID and don’t want to look stupid asking the girl to arrange things if that’s unusual. Also don’t want to walk into any traps. If it’s too complicated, I’ll just hit a massage place but the PYTs in those bars are very cute. |

While Vientiane is generally "safer" if you were to compare with say Vietnam, do still practice the usual precaution and stay alert during visits to these motels. |
