Hi all,

First time posting, so thought I would give a little report from a trip to Jakarta. A little background first..white expat who has been living in SG for three years now. I don't get to play much due to being married with kids and expectations of how to act due to my job...arrghh.

I think that as a country prospers and its citizenry can better afford to NOT have to sell their daughters, this phenomenon happens.

But if Jakarta is gonna clamp down on going overseas as maids, then it must also provide employment at home; so perhaps a more plentiful supply?

I am not optimistic though that prices are gonna moderate; I think what will happen is that even though more places will be allowed to open, such will be controlled to only offer higher priced services and less “in your face” type of offerings.

This although reported in the news is all bull. He was just embarrassed when the Malaysian media questioned him about the ban the indon gov imposed on Malaysia some time back and was lifted for no apparent reason or measures implemented on the treatment of indon maids. Just like Philippines, the gov of these nations will try to cash in on maids and reduce loans imposed on the maids. Meaning they earn more from the maids rather the agencies in Singapore. Approx 150000 maids come into Singapore each year 40% are indons. Not including other countries like Malaysia Taiwan Hong Kong and the Arab states.... Where to find and create jobs for them in Indonesia? Get real.....
