Viet Kieus or daughters married to foreigners are deemed to be ATMs, better than VietcomBank. Normally for a daughter married to foreigner, she also has to pay for the brother's wedding. I have heard and seen so many SGP man paying for the brother-in-laws wedding while the MIL will collect the red packet . Its always many thousands of SGD. When my BIL got married, i told my wife straight that i will not pay for his wedding. if no money, then don't get married. My MIL paid for it. My idea is simple, i will not take my hard -earned money that i saved for my children to be used for my In-Laws to show off. I don't provide the gold to put on their face. Want face? Earn by yourself.
Hi Bro

It appears that Viet culture is mostly about money and face. For one who is soft natured and unable to say 'No' to never ending requests for money and favours, it is going to be pretty stressful - more so for those with limited resources.

I am curious and hope you can provide some insights on my following question. What about the Viets from rich families? Are they also similar when it comes to money matters? Do they expect a foreign husband to match their expectations of money and influence? Or are they genuinely happy for their daugter(s) happily married for love? Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I had written many times in this topic...

Super filthy rich families will match make their daughters from young...so no chance for their daughters to find love on their own...this is their prerequisites...daughters who rebel will be cut off and left with nothing...till the daughters obey and returned to marry their hand picked hubby...usually another super filthy rich families or powerful politician or army general families..

there are many heart broken stories of super rich family daughters in Singapore getting involved and later forced to break up by their parents to go back Vietnam to marry their match make hubbies...

Bro, thanks for your input and views. Again it appears, the Viet culture tends to adopt the Confucian way of life, leaning on filial piety, obedience, respect for elders. I wasn't aware that the rich in Vietnam match make their daughters even to this day until you mentioned it. That said, I can't say Vietnamese ladies are a ''happy lot" even if they are born with a silver spoon.

Perhaps Bro Sing Viet would like to share his views too?

Bro Hurricane and SingViet, you guys should write a book with a title like, "Marrying a Vietnamese? Think Again!". I bet it will be a best seller yet brings awareness to people out there who are already or thinking about navigating into this minefield.

Great job!

Cannot let VBs found out this thread...... once they know they start to learn "counter- attacking moves".

They are fast learners; and will spread like wildfire.

Yeah.. that's true. Best to keep at least 'one hidden deadly move' under one's sleeve for the final assault if forced into the circumstances.

I have a nephew is his early 30's married to a young Vietnamese, it has been more than 3 years and the couple have a lovely baby. Personally I have never intrude into their lives such as finding out more about the girl's background etc but I was taken aback when they rushed into their marriage. My Uncle and wife flew up to HCMC for the ceremony and threw a wedding dinner with some dowry.

All these years, the young couple has been living together raising their child and everything appears to be under control, so far. My nephew works in his father's business and the Vietnamese wife is a housewife. She only goes back during the Tet festival with her baby, usually for about 2 weeks. My nephew does not go along (maybe he has his reasons?)

I guess even as life is running along fine, one has to be 'one step ahead' when dealing with a Viet life partner. After reading some of the postings here, my conclusion is to keep a level head where finance are concerned. Giving more doesn't equate to getting back more love and care.

haha...better try to be humble...only here to help advise...is up to individual to take my advice and make their own decisions...

I had guided numerous friends navigating Vietnam...most are successful...plenty of happiness...we stay away from unhappiness...is so easy once you knew them and most VBs went thru same grandmasters teachings...so understanding them is chicken feed...

I have a group of friends who fell in love with Vietnam after one or few trips...now we are regulars there...one or two of them fell in love with the food...haha....^^

to me Viet gals are one of the best in this planet...some of the most beautiful gals too in Vietnam...this is just my own opinion...not meant to upset and anger anyone....
