I have stayed in D5, Chung Co Ngo Gia Tu...D7, Tran Suan Xuan Hem and D8, Au Duong Lan...
I only stayed only in a slump area in D8, Co Lo when in HCMC and my bx house in the province to feed mozy. The rest are hotel in D8 and D1 for short stay.
The house in D8 was rented. Since my bx no longer stay in HCM, her bro, nieces and nephew moved to Go Vap.
Environment and safety sucks big time in D8... don't know how many padlocks are cut by burglar.
I was also very concerned about healthcare...till I saw every corner of the street there is pharmacy
Due to my medical condition (G6PD), I cannot anyhow prescribe med/drug.
I never trust the doctors in vn either. Whenever my son (inherited G6PD from me) go vn, I make sure that the medication is well stocked.
I hate doing business with Viets, but no choice. Typical trick they pull:
they confirm doing something with you, then when things are done , they say need to change.
Heard such stories from a bro also... something like meeting at the airport and confirmed everything. Upon reaching D1 to prepare contract, pattern come out..
not comparing lah... just wondering what you see in vn that make you plan of retiring there.
For me, i am working towards retiring in my home country comfortably.. be it that i need to work till 65
Wah hero... i thinking of retirement in vn.. but worry bored to death n std of living.. once u saved enough for medical or ur son's fees.. the flat rent out, monthly rent is good for vn lo... cpf maybe keep for children... thats if all are well..
My friend, you stay short while only. Your each trip max 1 month only. i stay in these places for for than 1 year each time. Different story when stay for much longer.
soon soon will be very long...but already used to living like locals...the key is communication and knew the ppl there...we did charities in D8 giving rice and necessities last hungry ghost festival...so we are all very welcome...
i am not like you...you dun mixed with them...in fact we mixed with the locals...we are like community...

Its much easier to do business with the PRC. The main difference is that:
Viets tend to change after confirming and refuse to pay for the change and will threaten with not cooperating with you anymore.
PRC, once confirmed, will not change. If there's any changes, they will try to convince the customers instead of finding fault with you. No threats.

Maybe because you do charity work there, so the locals treat you well. Actually i don't have any problem with the locals when i stayed there, the only problem i have is with my business associates. I do selective charity work there. I normally go to a temple at Q5 and the there's a chinese old man in the temple there have some lung problem around 3 years ago. He needed extra 1.2 million VND per month for 18 months for treatment and medication. I supported him throughout the 18 months for his treatment. I have also given wheelchair to the needy i saw on the streets of saigon. I don't actually go to a particular place to do charity, but i do when i see someone in need. I believe that i earn from the vietnamese, so i should use some of the income to help the needy there.
Other than that, i normally mix around with the middle to higher income families there as they are normally the ones that want to send their kids for overseas studies. My agents working for me are also from the same income group . When i started the cafe in Q7 last time, i find it difficult to mix around with lower income group. Communication breakdown. lol
