I was Naive (Story)

[Starter]

It seems that things has been resolved, I went back home and was constantly checking my pager. (Ann did not respond) I did something stupid again, I paged myself to make sure my page was working, holding on the the pager chain, and looking at it. it beeped, my pager was working fine.

Ann finally replied at the evening, and I was elated upon receiving her voicemail.

Ann's voicemail: it's good to know that it has be resolved, just don't do it again.

Ann was still as forgiven, but the more forgive she was the more guilty I was. I remember that night, I thought not only about Ann, but also Jasmine, Felicia and Gloria. I was a Jerk, I should have known this was coming but I just did not care.

The next day, I went to school as usual and Gloria said Hi to me. I think she accepted that I could not be with her, and she still tried to fulfil her promise of us being friends even if we did not work out. For that I was grateful to her, but WeiQi became another problem I faced now. With Gloria away most of the time, WeiQi was sticking to me more. But she did not like me, she was still out to spite Ah Kai in a bid to get him back.

After school ended, I paged the girls to meet at Bishan, I was lighthearted and and soon I returned to my old self as I waited for the girls at the station.

Felicia came first and she came to me.

Felicia: Idiot, Jasmine and Ann not here yet ah?

Me: No leh? Why now you miss them more than you miss me ah?

Felicia clings on my arm: Hee hee, you jealous huh?

Me: A bit lah, a bit only.

Jasmine and Ann arrived shortly and I did not know why, maybe due to the incidents that happened in the past few days I seem to miss Ann's smile.

Ann called out to me as she stretched her hand to me, I smiled and I knew she was no longer upset with me. I reached to hold her hand and once again we started to "discuss" about what to have for lunch.

We parked our food and had lunch at my home, and after lunch I was finally alone with Ann as I helped her clear the table as usual.

Me: Ann, that day were you very upset?

Ann did not answer me but nodded her head lightly.

Me: Did you cry?

Ann: Lawrence, things you do can hurt us a lot.

Me: Sorry.

Ann: Do you know why I condone your acts?

Me: why?

Ann: Because you are my first love too.

That was the reason I came up with to explain to Ann why it was hard for Gloria to break up with me, but that day when Ann spoke these words, I could really feel it's meaning from her. Ann asked me to clear the rubbish as she had finish clearing the table. We made our way to the living room, The atmosphere of the room was tense as Jasmine brought out the topic that Felicia and me dreaded most.

The end of the year exams.

Jasmine: I think we have to start studying this week.

Felicia: Huh, so fast ah.

Jasmine: If you want you can learn from some one, that got As in 2 weeks but he's not always that lucky.

Ann chuckles: Jasmine... That is so bad...

Me: Eh, I also got work hard one hor.

Jasmine: Did I say it was you?

To be honest, Jasmine was right. I was once again too involved with other activities rather than studying. And I needed serious help, but I was confident I could pass.

Me: I sure pass one lah, can relax a bit.

Felicia: Idiot, why you so confident?

Me proudly standing up: You see ah, mid year I get A, mid year is half of the full year mah. So I how also will pass.

Jasmine: What kind of theory is that?

Ann: It does make a bit of sense.

After the discussion, we planned to start our Exam study group the next day.

Let me move forward a little, and go past the study period with a brief summary.

We would basically meet daily and studied at my home, the surprising thing that happen was Stephanie came along to a couple of the sessions to study with Jasmine and Felicia. And the reason she gave for joining us really made us laugh.

Stephanie: When Kai is with me, I can't study at all.

The weeks went past and soon the Exams was over, we had a celebration on the last day of our examinations. But Jasmine was troubled, she was supposed to decide if she were to take up additional subjects and had a tough time deciding. She just thinks that she was a superwoman and wanted to do everything. But what troubled her most was languages, as I remember she was trying to make a choice between French, German and Japanese.

Jasmine: What should I choose?

Me: If you ask me, I really don't know.

Felicia: I will take Japanese!

Ann: Jasmine, just take something you like.

Jasmine: Ann, I don't think I like any of these.

Me: Aiyah, you also not Ang mo, take Asian lah, I support Japanese.

Felicia Nudge me: Idiot, I know why you want Jasmine to learn Japanese.

Jasmine: Why?

Felicia: Jasmine come I tell you

Felicia whispered into Jasmine's ears and Jasmine starts rolling her eyes.

Jasmine: If that is the case, Japanese is out.

Ann: Huh? Why?

Jasmine: Our dear boy here just want me to be a pornstar.

Felicia and Ann laughed and I pouted.

In the end Jasmine chose French as it seemed classic. (Typical)

We ended that day with that, and as usual I walked Jasmine and Ann to the station before walking Felicia to the terminal. And while walking to the terminal with Felicia, she cling onto me swinging my arm.

Felicia: Idiot, you Ling time never date me already hor?

Me: Eh, we almost Everyday meet leh.

Felicia: You forgot already ah, every week you promise one day for me one.

Me: I never forget, we study for exam mah.

Felicia: Then tomorrow, you meeting me?

Me: Ok lah, you like so poor thing like that.

Felicia: Idiot, I girl leh, where got always I ask you one.

Me: okok, Felicia can I date you tomorrow?

Felicia: You come fetch me ah?

Me: Ok, what time?

Felicia: Erm.. 11am lor, you come up yourself hor.

Soon Felicia's bus came, and she boarded it after giving me a peck on the cheek.

But that night, I received a page. It was a familiar number, It was from Joanne.

Is Joanne back? And if she was, is Christina with her?

These thoughts instantly filled my mind, as I returned Joanne's call. The phone rang and someone picked up the phone

Me: Hello?

Joanne: I'm Back............

Me: Joanne?

Joanne: Lawrence, don't tell me you have forgotten about me.

Me: No no, why you suddenly come back?

Joanne: We are having our school break now, and my Father needed to come back to settled some paperwork with my Mother, so here I am. Lawrence? Can you come down?

Me: Now? For what?

Joanne: I miss the food here, and my Father is so not having supper with me. can you accompany me?

Me: Ok lor...

I wanted to ask her if Christina came back with her as well, but just did not know how to.

I took $100 from the envelope Joanne gave me, and took a cab down to her place, the place I last saw Christina.

As I arrived at Joanne's home, it was ironic. I really wish that Christina was there but even if I met her I really did not know what to say.

I pressed on the doorbell, and Joanne came running out. She opened the gate, and came out giving me a hug.

Joanne: Lawrence!!! How are you!!!

Joanne was indeed happy to see me, I was stretching my neck looking into her home hoping maybe I can catch a glimpse of Christina.

Me looking into house and briefly replied her: I ok Lor, same mah.

Joanne lets go of me, and looked at me before shaking her head: You can stop looking, she is not here.

Me: Huh who?

Joanne: Nevermind.....

Joanne and I did not go far, we just walked for 10-15mins and arrived at the old Ponggol Nasi lemak. Joanne order everything, I think anyone can easy mistaken her as someone that just came out of prison, rather than someone that came back from US.

When we were eating, Joanne would tell me about life in US, her School, Nee friends she made. She seemed to have adjusted to life there, however she did not breath a word about Christina.

We finished the food, and I had a bloated stomach. (she ordered a lot and just took a little of everything asking me to finish the rest) As we were walking back, Joanne pulled me to cross the street.

Me: We not going back meh, why go this way?

Joanne: I want to go to the food centre.

Me: You still can eat?

Joanne: I suddenly want to eat Satay, You want?

I shook my head waving my hand to Joanne: You feeding pig ah?

Joanne ignored me and carried on walking, we reach the food centre where she Order her satay for takeaway. While waiting Joanne looked at me, I Guess she could not hold it in her anymore and finally she spoke about Christina.

Joanne: Why didn't you tell me the Christina was your Girlfriend.

Me: You know ah?

Joanne shook her head: Who do you think was with her, when you heartlessly just cut off all contacts with her? I expect better from you.

I did not know what to say, I just kept quiet.

Joanne's Satay was ready, she went to collect them. We walked back and Joanne suddenly asked me: Why did you do that to Christina?

[Starter]

There was nothing to hide between Joanne and me, she knows about my 4 girlfriends but I guess she did not expect one of them to be Christina.

Me: It was my fault, but when I realised it, it was too late.

Joanne looked at me and she shook her head again: Tell me what happened when we got to the house.

Her house? Please, I really do not want to meet her Father.

Me: Your Father is in right?

Joanne: just go in, it's not as if he does not know you. Anyway I think he is asleep by now.

I reluctantly nodded and we soon reached Joanne's house, as I entered her home, Joanne switched on the lights, the familiar sight bring back memories. But the place seem a little messy, compared to the previous visits I made.

Joanne casually left the packed satay at the dining table, as I followed her to the backyard. We sat on the swing again like we used to and I started telling her about how Sonia's slip of tongue caused Rachel to confront me, and ultimately caused the misunderstanding between Christina and me.

Joanne: Why didn't you tell Christina that you misunderstood her.

Me: I can't, If I let Christina know about Felicia, I think I will hurt her even more.

Joanne being sarcastic: So smart of you playing Romeo to a bunch of good friends.

Me: I also don't want to, things just happened. And I really love all of them.

Joanne: Lawrence, liking someone and loving someone are two different things.

Me: It is true, I really loved them all.

Joanne: You sure? Then what about me?
