aye, it was a time when the league champs always came from merseyside, aston villa and nottingham forest were good teams, with wimbledon perfecting the long ball and luton being hard to beat due to their artificial pitch... the good old days! kekeke... cheers.

Ok lah, if try hard enough, then still can recall Kerry Dixon & Pat Nevin ... of any worthy mention from Chelsea.
As for the Scums, I actually admire some of their more gentlemanly players ... Remi Moses, Frank Stapleton, Jesper Olsen - that's about it.

Ipswich ... Paul Mariner, Alan Sunderland, John Wark, George Burley - they were in that WWII movie with Stallone, Caine, Ardiles & Pele. Remember?

Mine was for Keegan, Dalglish (but only as a player), Nicol, Grobbelaar, Rush, Whelan, Wark & Johnston.

Actually, I think the most academically qualified player was Paul Powers (hope this old man remembered the name correctly) ... he was the captain of Man City, playing as left-back ... the only university graduate to have played professionally, if I'm not wrong.

sorry bro, the first university graduate that played professionally is Steve Heighway, our very own winger (yapz, he is also a Reds - Liverpool). That is if my memory serves me right.
he is presently in-charge of our Football Academy.
During his time at the club players such as Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have come through the ranks.
But he will be leaving as Rafz is taking charge of the academy.
Our youth team won the FA Youth Cup final last week.

Players during his time at Liverpool was Kevin Keegan, John Roshack, Tommy Smiths, Ian Callaghan, Phil Neal, Phil Thompson....all our greats during the 70s
They played during under our great - Bill Shankly & Bob Paisley

So who u think is earlier, Heighway or Paul Power ?

Heinze loses bid for Anfield move

Heinze joined United from Paris St Germain in 2004
Manchester United's Gabriel Heinze has lost his attempt to force the club to allow him to move to rivals Liverpool.
United disputed claims from Heinze, 29, who said the Red Devils gave him written permission to pursue a transfer to another club for a fee of £6.8m.

The matter was referred to a Premier League arbitration panel.

The hearing concluded that the written letter Heinze possessed "was unambiguous in that it envisages only an international transfer".

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and chief executive David Gill travelled to Monday's hearing to put their case

Is football just about Manure or Chelski?
That shabby predicted pool will win the tittle this season, cant believe that but i guess we are in with a chance now if we beat the teams below us.

Fact is ... he played for Ipswich at the tail-end of his career, after playing for a long time for Arsenal.
Problem is ... I wrongly remembered him as playing for the Ipswich team that beat Arsenal 1-0 in the 1978 FA Cup, when he was actually on the losing Arsenal team.

but if Heinze really want to get away from Man Utd and join us, there is always ways to do it.
do anyone still remember Clive Allen, he had 2 1mil transfer before the start of a new season. He joined Arsenal eventually, when he faced the same kind of obstruction. He transferred to another club first, then from there he was transferred to Arsenal, both deal costing 1mil plus. It was a BIG news during that time.
I believed it was arranged, the second transferred cost more than the first, the first club (if i remember correctly is QPR), QPR earned some profit from it at that time.
So if Heinze really want to do it, he can also follow the same path that Clive Allen took.....
