I myself have NEVER VISTED Hanoi. I always do a research (reading at least 100 pages) in the thread before approaching senior brothers out stationed at Phuket for other information and references. This is to show that you are not lazy ass to just pm seniors for some stupid questions which most likely already been repeated within the thread. To all newbies, this is the way you noobs should do before just anyhow approaching senior brothers for information. What's worst, never ask for WL contacts from the seniors that have sincerely contributed their experience and information. In sammyboy, you will never be spoon fed!
Anyway, disclaimer: the information below is gathered from at least 100 pages back. So some places might have moved, prices fluctuated, etc. Things change. Alas, although things do change, these information are still valuable.

Depends on your luck, most of the time, I can see a security in the lobby esp in the night... There is another way into the hotel room but it going to be a longer way but I can't remember unless I am on the spot.
