It's sad but it shows how badly divided the club and the supporters are right now. Anyway, this is the first time I have seen you on the board, so welcome! and I look forward to your contributions PS. You probably know the Quote function allows you to reply to many posts in one reply. |

My question is, if there is a new government with new methods, which is not easy to understand or popular at first, would you be patient with them or vote them out the very next poll? Rafa has been with us for 3.5 years - is that long enough for us to decide? Houllier was given more time. Souness was given no time because well...it was too obvious. |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
I have no reserve in giving full credit to Barnsley, especially the goalkeeper. There must be something missing in the whole Liverpool system. If a manager tells the world that he chooses his best 11 for every match and it fails, it's either the manager's has got lousy sense or the players are not up to the mark.It can't be luck all the time. I'm not talking about this match alone. As you mentioned, we have this since December 07.I just felt that pool's style of play is no longer as organised as before.(I'm talking about this season)

I mean, if someone know he's going to lose his job in the next few months, whats on his mind? He's gonna plan his exit and the job performance standard will definitely slip. That's human nature and you can't really blame him.

Kop legend Smith blasts Reds boss Benitez
Legendary Liverpool defender Tommy Smith has launched a stinging criticism of Reds boss Rafael Benitez after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup by Barnsley. Brian Howard's injury-time winner at Anfield dumped Liverpool out of yet another competition, leaving them with just the Champions League - in which they face Inter Milan this week - to contest. And Smith, who captained Liverpool to the 1971 league and UEFA Cup double, has hit out at Benitez's controversial rotation policy and decision to rest several key players for yesterday's visit of the Coca-Cola Championship side. Smith told BBC Radio Five Live: 'In the programme for yesterday's game Benitez said cup competitions are always dangerous if you think you can beat teams easily. So why on earth didn't he put a strong team out against Barnsley?' Smith admitted Reds fans may finally start to run out of patience with the Spanish boss. 'I should imagine so. At the end of the day Bill Shankly used to tell us you're only as good as your last result. How on earth does Benitez think he's going to win stuff if he puts a second-class team out? 'Because Liverpool's squad is not as strong as I think he thought at the beginning of the season. I don't think he's even got a strong first XI. 'How could he leave (Jose) Reina, (Steven) Gerrard and (Javier) Mascherano out?' Smith admitted the last-16 European tie with Inter is now do-or-die. 'I'm afraid so,' he said. 'He keeps going on about winning four cups and all that but at the end of the day it's not even entertaining at Anfield at the moment. The crowd keep it going but they booed everybody at the end of the game and quite rightly. 'The first person you put on the team-sheet is Gerrard. How on earth could he sit on the bench for 75 minutes and watch that...then he (Benitez) talks about chances. Well, they've gone. You can't score after the game finishes.'

PS. The best XI of any team can be beaten by an inferior team on any day. Chances increase when you are in an open format, knock out competition. There are only 4 Premier League teams left in the FA Cup and we are the only case where people say is due to some problem with the manager and his system. |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
I think Rafa has also lost the belief of his players. And because of that, Rafa is no longer able to command their respect and unable to inspire them. And i'm not surprised if he even lost belief with himself. I agree with Aldrige that it was after he lost Paco (his long time sidekick) that the slide began (similar to how i feel Federer has gone down after sacking his coach). I don't think this is a bad patch. A "patch" should last so long.
With his lousy selection decisions/policies and a stubborness to change, i dun see any hope for us...I dare not watch the CL game this week *shudder*. I agree with what one of the TV presenters said, if they lose the CL game, rafa will go. And honestly, i hope he does before its too late. I am so afraid Liverpool is going to become like Spurs and Newcastle, a has-been team. I almost feel like we're the laughing stock of the premier league. And soon it will only be the "big 3" and not four. Sigh... |

i totally agree with what you said. A bad patch is like a few games. This current liverppol team, i just can't see them get out of this bad patch. They sinking real fast. And dont mind me saying, their style is really sterile. in the past under houllier or evans, results werent good either, but at least they played entertaining soccer. A big paradigm shift is required this time to turn things around. Like you, I watch each liverpool game with trepidation and resignation. I never felt like this before.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
We are not good enough, says Carragher
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher claims the club's problems run deeper than their shock FA Cup exit to Barnsley at the weekend suggested. Despite taking the lead against the Championship side Rafael Benitez's team conceded an injury-time winner to increase the pressure on the under-fire manager and under-performing players. The Anfield club are 19 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal and are facing a battle to secure fourth place which is the minimum expected at the start of every season. 'I wouldn't call this just a bad spell,' Carragher said. 'It's been a lot longer than that. We realise we are not playing well enough. It's not a matter of putting your finger on one reason. 'It's simply because we have not been good enough. We've still got the Champions League to play for and we have to fight for that fourth place, so every league game is going to be important. We have to make sure we are in the Champions League next season.' Things do not get any easier for Liverpool as tomorrow they face Inter Milan, who lead Serie A by 11 points, in the first leg of their Champions League second round match at Anfield. 'At every club there are ups and downs, but we realise we are going to get a lot of criticism in the next few days and rightly so,' added Carragher. 'We've got a massive game coming up against Inter, so we're going to have to get over this because the Champions League is massive for us now. 'It's the only thing we have left that we can win.' Bro, first I would like to thank you for your gracefulness for not using your power to zap me when I disagreed with your comment. I take my hat off. If I had offended your by my comments, I am sorry. Spurs is smaller to Chelski if you compare the amount of money that Chelski can spend. Totally agreed. But in terms of winning cups, Spurs can be rated on par with teams like MU, Gunners and of course Pool. In the Carling final, Spurs will be more hungry to win. Because this is the only route that they will get themselves back to Europe next year. Spurs have no chioce. Chelski, on the other hand, will have CL, EPL championship and Carling to choose. Infact, they have three choices!!! Why take a smaller cup when CL is waiting for the Blues? Don't zap me if I also disagree with you with the sentence about the definition of a smaller team. Who will win a certain game will depend how hungry the team is. There was a classic case that a smaller team won against a much bigger team last weekend. The smaller team was much more hungry to win. They played very well (hope your agreed) and managed to overcome all the odds. It all depends on how hungry you are. |
