Check this out.. a news article in Channel news asia.
SINGAPORE : Some residents of Joo Chiat are seeing red about the many entertainment outlets that have sprung up in their largely residential area.
Many complain that these outlets are attracting undesirable activities, such as prostitution to an area known for its historical architecture and Peranakan culture.
At last count, there are about 70 karaoke lounges, more than 30 massage parlours, and at least seven budget hotels along Joo Chiat Road alone.
And residents aren't thrilled.
Residents say that over the past six to twelve months, there has been a rapid rise in the number of karaoke lounges, pubs, health centres and massage parlours - establishments that they say, are attracting social problems and give Joo Chiat a bad name.

== Its good for history...becos prostitution is the older profession in the world!!!
Landlords can now raise rents and because of that, many traditional businesses have moved out.
== isn't this good for the landlords? i don't see them complaining!!!
Mr Chan has regular meetings with the police and various agencies, including the Land Transport Authority and the URA, to review the situation and take action where needed.
== They meet at J51, BS or BL?????
However, the MP says the businesses are legitimate, and as long as they don't contravene the law, there's not much that can be done.
== Can apply for EDB and TDB grants???
"I have to say that whatever action taken has got to be within the framework of the law. There's no reason for police to go beyond what is legally permissible," the MP added.
==Touche...keep JC the lively area that it is!
Bro,last saw u 2 times at BL n have small CHAT with U la...
You may ask why buy then if you know it’s not real. Probably a lot of people know it’s not real but they still enjoy it anyway…and it tastes as sweet if not sweeter. There are people who cannot or don’t want to commit real relationship. Reasons there are many…like being married…didn’t want a long term relationship…can’t get any gf…don’t want to invest too much time courting gf and yet cannot bonk cannot touch must wait till married…just broke up with gf so want to find a short term one etc etc….Even though it’s not real…it won’t last…it doesn’t really matter to them…they still enjoy it nonetheless. You pay for what you enjoy…be it a bought relationship…sex…or both. What’s the point of buying a Merc if you don’t enjoy driving it. Isn’t it what you enjoy that counts?
Hope I did not offend anyone…if yes…I apologise in advance…me just looking at things from a different angle.
Interesting perspective .... buying relationships .... but then why buy when it can be gotten for free .... just my perspective
Many young brothers here do not understand the Viet Girls and their mission here. The only thing on the minds of these Viet Girls when they come to Singapore is to make as much money as possible in the shortest period of time. To think that many brothers believe that these girls will fall in love with you. Having to spend the last 2 years in Ho Chi Minh City and understanding all these Viet Bar Girls, there is no LOVE (or hardly any). The reason for them to express `Em Yeu Anh' (I Love U) is basically to CHOP you brothers more.
right on ... but then i prefer to bonk and keep my money in my pocket which i have been getting quite a lot .... like i said if they like you just take and eat ... when she ask for resaponsibility aka money just brush it aside ....
in the words of a vietnamese friend whom is filthy rich, he said this about viet woman," if i have money, my wife will stick to me but when i am poor she will flee" ....think about it .....i seen quite a few man regret their "love" wiyth viet gals from joo chiat ..... end of the day the key word is still "MONEY"

anyway .... wedding will be cheaper if held in Vietnam .... was at a restaurant and I found out that a wedding can cost from 500,000VND (@S$56) to about 1.2m VND (@S$112) and so cheaper than Singapore. This does not include the drinks that will be served .....
Besides this, you need to book a live band and it cost about 5m VND (@S$500+)......
hope this help in your budget planning ....
