Benitez: We will see off United

Rafa Benitez cast aside his usual caution yesterday and boldly warned Manchester United: 'We are going to beat you.' The Liverpool manager normally fights shy of predictions but was adamant the force is with his improved team as they prepare to kick off a momentous double-header in the race for the Barclays Premier League title.

Benitez believes Liverpool now have enough firepower to hold sway and said: 'We have come really close before, but we are better equipped now to go on and beat them. We have players who can change a game like Gerrard, Torres and Ryan Babel, players who can score goals.

'We always had a plan going to Old Trafford. We tried to do certain things but in the end we did not have enough power. We have now. They have match-winners in Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez, but we have two or three who can do the same.'

Steven Gerrard's potent partnership with Fernando Torres may pose the biggest threat to United's three-point lead at the top, but Benitez feels one-time Old Trafford target Javier Mascherano's midfield dynamism could prove just as important.

The Argentine, recently signed for £19million, will be on a mission to stop Cristiano Ronaldo and Benitez compared him to Roy Keane.

He said: 'Javier is a strong character and leader and is the same kind of player as Keane. He is a key man for us who gives us balance, and his fantastic work-rate gives the likes of Torres and Gerrard the freedom to go forward.'

The Liverpool boss also tipped his side to reach 100 goals for the season.

He added: 'We have already scored 99, so we will watch a few videos of them and go there with a lot of confidence. We have the belief to go to Old Trafford and win.'

Belief is the word. Barack Obama is so popular with the young Americans coz he has been kept telling them & making them believe : YES WE CAN !

the blue half of the city of liverpool could only held the hammers 2 a 1-all draw at home last nite.
Now they hv played a game more but still trill the Reds by 2 pts.
2nite the Reds will get a result at manu.
We shall see off the everton next sunday at Anifield.

To make matter worst Reina was a nervous wreck.

It could easily have been 3 goals up . Yup Javier Mascherano got sent off for talking back to the referee for a 2nd bookable offence.Lets hope the lads can bounce back after this setback.

Yea, we are well below par, no argument on that.

seen it coming even before the match with the all the big talks and hype by Riise and Benitez....why can't they shut up and let their football do the talking..now they have the cake smack back into their face...and mascherano should learn this saying..."if a fish learns to keep it mouth shut, it won't find itself in trouble"...

This referee name is Steve Bennet is it? KNN, this is not the first time he did this to Liverpool!I agreed, Rafa should just 'Shut Up"!Just because the reds is winning and he becomes 'Lansi" suddenly.

Don't just blame the referee alone. Our defense really bad and our Reina really off form today. All the hype talk and mind games before the game is like a slap into Rafa's face.
