Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
It was a good performance by Man U but not the best, the reason why they score so many because Roma's goalie sucks big time, 4-5 goals was his fault, bad positionings and judgements, terrible, i would be surprise if he's still the goalie in Roma next season.
Ronaldo was at his usual self, Carrick, Heinze and Fletcher worth praisings, Fletcher clipped Totti's wings, good for him. Del Rossi's goal is the best of all the goals, awesome half volley, although he didnt celebrate it Last edited by Sayangku; 11-04-2007 at 11:53 AM. |

Bro you are right about Totti. He isnt the Totti he was 2-3 years ago. Brown and Fletcher took turns to put him in their pockets. This current Utd team is too brash. Scoring 7 goals only heap more pressure on themselves as each time they step onto the field they are expected to repeat the performance. Sometimes it is good to know when to step on the brake. A 3 goal winning margin would be just right.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
MAGNIFICO SEVEN
IF THIS is what Manchester United can produce with a depleted squad ravaged by injuries and suspension, then heaven help their remaining opponents in the Champions League when they reach full strength. In arguably the greatest European night Old Trafford has ever witnessed, United destroyed Roma with a performance of such irresistible brilliance that Sir Alex Ferguson's side now know a repeat of their historic 1999 triumph is firmly within their grasp. AC Milan or Bayern Munich await United in the semi-finals and neither will fancy facing Fergie's men, who cemented their status as the most dangerous team left in the tournament with this Magnificent Seven demolition job - thanks to goals from Michael Carrick (2), Cristiano Ronaldo (2), Alan Smith, Wayne Rooney and substitute Patrice Evra. Before the game all the talk was of the perceived threat of violence from Roma's hard-core travelling army of Ultras. But it was United's ultra-brilliance on the field that shone through and ensured matters on the pitch took centre stage. This was a night on which every United player excelled, with Ronaldo in particular running riot as the men in the famous red shirts made a mockery of Roma's status as the side with the best defensive record in the Champions League. United's sublime victory saw them rewrite history at the sixth attempt. Never before had one of Fergie's sides managed to overturn a first-leg deficit in the knockout stages. It was also the night which saw the rebirth of striker Smith. Making only his fourth start of the season, he scored his first goal for 18 months following his recovery from a broken leg to mark his comeback in style. There was a sense of anxiety about Roma from the start - and United exploited it to devastating effect with three mesmerising goals in the space of seven breathtaking minutes. The rout began in the 12th minute when Carrick took one touch before unleashing a majestic 25-yard strike which left Roma keeper Doni static before nestling in the back of the net. Five minutes later Smith scored his first goal since November 2005, taking a flick from stand-in skipper Ryan Giggs and showing great composure to steer the ball home. Pandemonium broke out around Old Trafford - and the drama continued in the 19th minute. With the Roma defence backtracking, Giggs played the perfect ball across the face of their goal and Rooney applied the killer touch, steering the ball in off the far post. All three goals were stunning in their creation and devastating in their execution, yet there was more to come a minute before the interval. Ronaldo made it 4-0, taking the ball past Cristian Chivu before drilling it inside Doni's near post to complete an amazing first-half blitz. United continued where they left off, Ronaldo making it 5-0 in the 49th minute when he turned the ball in at the far post from a Giggs cross. This was a night on which almost everything United touched turned to gold. Rooney even tried an audacious shot from the halfway line in the 55th minute, the only surprise being it didn't go in. Roma were shot to pieces, yet United showed them no mercy. Carrick scored his second on the hour with another majestic strike which flew into the top right-hand corner. The Italians scored a consolation goal through Daniele De Rossi, but Evra compounded their humiliation in the 81st minute by scoring United's seventh with another long-range strike. Three points clear at the top of the Premiership and in the semi-finals of both the Champions League and the FA Cup, a repeat of the Treble triumph of 1999 is most definitely on for United. And who would bet against it now?

Liverpool are as good as thru and they've nothing to prove now. News have it that PSV are again not in full strength - missing up to 5-6 of their first team tonight. I personally believe the final will be between Liverpool/Chelsea vs Munich and either English team will win the trophy. My team will be European Chumps again.
