Re: Foreigner Wife!
Maybe OT a bit, but this seems the most appropriate thread.
I tried applying for social visit visa for a PRC online via SAVE and got rejected. She is a graduate and wanted to come here genuinely to look for schools, not a WL. She has been to Singapore once for look-see and like the place. As she is really keen to come this round, she say she'll have better chance of success if she send over her original passport to me, and for me to visit ICA personally to apply for her, and be her guarantor. I've no problem with that but just wonder how to fill in the Form14 without her signature? Or should I ask her to send a duely signed Form14 along with the pp? Will this really improve the success rate? And does the 1st rejection (via online) have any impact on the above? What's the BEST reason to put in the "reason to come singapore" field? What extra documents can I present together with form14 to improve the success rate? TIA

It is on a case by case basis, mine is $1k, my friend $5K, depending on the age or risk factors. It is better for you to go and get a bank endosement form filled up and endosed by bank first (cant remember what the name), it is with the form V39i, or else have to run to bank during office hours then back to ICA quene up before can get the visa.

Anyway, I gone down to ICA building today and saw they have electronic ticketing system in place liao (was there 1mth plus ago didn't have yet). So no need to queue, just take a ticket and fill in the forms while waiting for your number to be called. Also, I notice they have a new Form14; got a few more pages behind. Those PRC (Level 1 countries) who are unemployed, like my friend, need a copy of their "house book" for submission - this is new to me. If employed, need a letter from their PRC company stating their period away from company, reason, and some other employment details like length/position in the company. Sian, got to ask my friend to DHL the photocopy of housebook (and I also ask for graduation cert) to me and make another trip. But I think success should be higher with these extra documents, and me as local sponsor, unlike the online SAVE application. Will see... p.s. Thanks Rof|maoxz for your tips. I'll ask her why she didn't consider the agent path. Just didn't wanna be involved as recommender as I did the last time that's all. Wait people waste money I also sian. p.s2. Got PRC gfs need to make all these visa runs lor... wat to do

Dun worry too much of the Security Deposit until the ICA officer tell you to prepare when you are at the collection counter. Just prepare SIN$1K, in case first. What you need to do is to apply a social visa for me in order for her to apply a Long Term Social Visit Pass when she's in Singapore. Den she's with you, go and apply a LTSVP for her and wait for ICA to approve / reject your application. She will be given a month grace to stay while waiting. The Banker Guarantee/Cashier Order is issued from any major 4 banks, address to Comissioner of ICA for guaranteeing her stay by you, as her Local Sponsor. It looks like a cheque.

When ICA approve your visa application, they will inform you to go down ICA to collect, during collection, you may required to place a security deposit amounting from $1k-$?? like I said depending on risk factors. You need to fill up a form (i believe is the GIRO form) and endosed (chop and sign) by the bank for ICA to return you the $$$ thru GIRO. For returning of the security deposit, it will takes 3 weeks to 4 weeks after your gf left Singapore and return the Visa at the airport to ICA officer there. REMEMBER to return the visa when at the airport. Hope these helps....

Re: Foreigner Wife!
Just got off the phone with a friend who married a PRC wife; got lots of questions but here's the scenario hope bros can help (I've quickly browsed thru the old posts):
- Friend has been paying good taxes but recently asked to go; left jobless. - Know this PRC for 2 years (think during biz trips) and hv plans for marriage. - Got gal pregnant 6 months ago and so had to bring forward the marriage; so got married in gal's PRC hometown 2 month's ago; now gal still staying in PRC. - PRC gal is of a "farmer" background with no education cert. I advised him to get her over to deliver the child in Singapore (for better medical support - think only singapore got that injection thingy for painless delivery). He afraid that the gal may not "survive" well here since it's probably hard to find her work (given her edn. background). Still, I say it's not practical for them to stay apart with so many trips in-between for long term. Furthermore, it'll benefit her and the child if she get PR in Sgp. My friend even considered migrating over to PRC if needed. Am I giving good advise to settle down in Sgp instead? Does her "farmer" background with no edn imply anything if she comes to Singapore for PR? (Like enrolling in schools, apply for work, etc.) TIA

Anyway, you should not be advising him, or them. It's their lifelong decision. Don't get blame for nothing, although no matter how good both of you are, or best-of-best-buddy. You should know what I'm referring.... buddy.... if the wife not gg to get SPR eventually, she can't accustom to Singapore lifestyle.... thus creating unneccessary bickering @ home. etc and so on.... Secondly.... "paying good taxes" is not a sure-route of a SPR getaway.... there's plenty of other consideration besides the fanancial stability of the spouse. If the husband's medisave account is sufficient to cover most of the delivery charges, why not? But, there again, he is required to apply the social visa for her, in order for delivery in Singapore. Your frd's account might be giving me a false impression that she wants a SPR nia, that's all. I can't give you absolute assurance that she will be granting SPR, as SPR is not an entitlement in the marriage. But there is a certain % that she may get it, maybe of several tries, afterall. Ask your friend to keep his wife informed about the living conditions, lifestyle, the people, education and other essential stuff to her, let her decide and make her adult decision as whether Singapore is a ideal choice, or there is any other option. Hope my advice, do helps... Rdgs
