If create different account for wife also no use unless you ensure she doesnt have adminstrator rights. If she has, she still can access all your files and folders...Women nowadays very scary...one of female friends even manage to dig out the porn websites i have been to before and all my porn videos when i let her use my lappy as another user but i forgot to take out the admin rights haha.

p/s: Admin rights means user can access all the folders of all accounts in that pc or lappy. Restricted rights means the user CAN only access folders files assigned ....or something like that to that account only. That was how it used to be when i last played with it

p/s: Admin rights means user can access all the folders of all accounts in that pc or lappy. Restricted rights means you cannot access mydocs, mymusic, myvids of another account. Programs installed in another account also will not be visible or cannot be run on your account and vice versa. I am not sure about logs so cant comment.

To be safe : turn off autocomplete, clear history, delete files, untick "remeber name and password", log out from websites, turn off logger for programs, Right click and hide your files if you really have to keep them and select "do not show hidden files options" in folder settings then hope your wife isnt smart enough to turn it on haha. Or compress files/folders then set password to lock them....There are many ways to do it but also many ways to undo it also. Best is still use seperate pcs/lappy. I'm currently using this program called CCleaner. Scans your history logs, completed fields, cookies, history, index.dat files, last download location and clears all of them off. Pretty fast and usefull.

Not too sure how it stands out with sophisticated data recovery techniques though.

But so far, it's good enough for me.

Frankly speaking.. Even the data still can retrieve even if u delete them. It just like CSI stuff.. if u know how to do that..

I got separate machines for my wife and myself... and passwords and all. But if you got a wife like mine, who ask u suddenly for your password and then say, if you got nothing to hide, then you can tell me... then you need more than separate machines and passwords.

What I got now is I create encrypted drives on my NAS. These drives are only mounted with a password. So if I log in normally, you will not they exist cos they are just one big file. I hide the encryption program deep within windows directory and remove any signs of installation.

All my stuff like third party IM programme, irc, even a Safari browser is installed within the encrypted drive. So that when the drive is not mounted, none of those programs can run. Cos when my browser got no history, my wife will say I must have deleted it to cover tracks. So I only browse SBF on my Safari.

So these days I am very open, tell my wife what is my password. Let her use my computer if she want. She actually dont bother me so much when I am open then when I am hiding, so I think this is a better strategy for me.

So I have to appear open and yet hiding... very tough job...

Anyway, Linux provide more security than Windows.
