Singapore completes budget air terminal at Changi Airport
SINGAPORE : Singapore has completed construction of a dedicated terminal at Changi Airport to serve the booming low-cost airline sector, officials said Monday. "The budget terminal has been completed and will be operational on March 26," a spokeswoman from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said. The one-storey terminal cost S$45 million (US$27.5 million). It will occupy 25,000 square metres of floor space, about the size of three football fields, and will handle about 2.7 million passengers a year. "With budget travel becoming more prevalent in this region, we are doing what we can to promote the growth of this segment of air travel in Singapore," Wong Woon Liong, director general of civil Aviation at CAAS, said earlier. Singapore-based Tiger Airways, backed by flag carrier Singapore Airlines, has committed to use the terminal.
