Shanghai hotel & Jin Yuan Wan Hc is located in Jingan district on Puxi area and where you stay is in Pudong area which is divided by the Huangpu River.

Distances apart for the 2 areas. U can commute to & fro the 2 areas by the Subway Metro. Suggest you get a Shanghai map too when you arrive from a local newspaper stand. Cost is SGD1.

Safer for u & easier to go around too.

中国国家统计局前天公布，今年第三季经济增长明显下滑，同比增长为9％，这是近年来“难得一见”的单位数增 长。以目前全球经济环境来看，未来三个月里，中国经济的增长速度将继续处于相对缓慢的状态，整个年度的增长 率有可能跌破10％。
　　中国经济增长放慢的主要原因之一，在于海外市场的吸收能力在减弱。从今年广交会期间出现的冷淡气氛，以 及沿海地区一些厂家陷入困境的情况看，美国金融危机的负面影响显然已经波及中国的出口工业。作为一个开放的 经济体和全球经济的重要一部分，这是无法避免和抗拒的。任何依赖出口贸易的企业，都不能指望旱涝保收，而只 能在外部市场的大气候下，做好“听天由命”的准备。

　　所幸中国金融体系的开放程度还不高，在财政和货币政策上拥有足够的操作空间和实力，不仅能够减少受金融 风暴冲击的力度，而且还能安全稳当地渡过此轮危机。中国是一个庞大的经济体，而且还是屈指可数的富有活力的 经济体，所以即便经济增长速度有所下滑，但只要站稳脚跟，它就能继续对世界经济起到中流砥柱的 作用。

　　当然，在浙江、广东等沿海省份，长期依赖出口贸易的制造业，势必要面对生存与发展的难关。与此同时，工 厂难以为继乃至倒闭，必然会导致工人失业，随之就会出现一些社会问题。这是中国各级政府所要面 对的新挑战。

　　除却上述和其他种种具体困难，包括股市疲软、房价下跌和通货膨胀等等，中国经济将依然能够平稳地运行， 而外部冲击不大会导致国内经济和市场秩序出现严重的紊乱。出口贸易在中国经济中的比重只有36％，只要采取 有效的应对措施，其中的损失可以通过其他渠道弥补回来。

　　实际上，经济适度降温，正是中国政府最近几年所想要达到的目标。只是由于地方本位主义的阻挠，更有一些 利益集团的抗拒，中央政府实施宏观调控措施的效果被打折扣。

　　现在，外部市场问题导致出口企业遇到困难，有弊也有利，它再次说明经济发展的方向已经到了必须进行战略 调整的时候。可以说，此时正是一个机遇，中国政府可以因势利导，把扩大内部需求、培养和巩固本土市场的战略 思维，变成更多、更具体的政策和行动。

　　农村地区和中小城镇，是中国可以持续扩大内需的广阔天地。目前这些地区的消费能力还远远不够强，市场还 远远不够成熟，潜力还远远没有充分开发，因此再也不能继续予以忽视和轻视。长远来说，要保持经济高速增长， 那就必须把乡村和小城镇作为未来几十年的大舞台。

　　最近，中共十七届三中全会就农村地区的发展问题，作出了战略决策和政治宣示，决心在未来12年内使农村 居民的收入翻一番，同时还要消除绝对贫困的现象。这一战略决策的出台，正好遇到全球金融危机的爆发，虽然是 巧合，但却更加证明了发展战略的调整是及时的。

　　当然，要使广袤的乡村和小城镇全面富裕起来，绝对不是一件容易的事情。这不仅需要政策的倾斜，而且还要 大量的财政投入。只要有政治决心，只要专心和长久地做下去，那结果就不只是中国人自己变成小康和富裕，世界 经济也就增加一个更加强劲的引擎。

Already there' re a couple of buddies of mine, SGPorean, HKGer, Taiwanese being 'laid-off' from their snr mgmt jobs in Shanghai as we speaks.

Tell-tale signs & reality starts to kick in here in China upon expats like us.....and as you said, hold on to one's job and be ever ready to face the grave reality when one day, one reaches into the office, sit down to turn on his/her computer yet unable to log on to main system, then seeing a big white envelope on one's desk.........scary fact but true now.....sigh......
