The man instantly fancied the 27-year-old Chinese national woman and married her one month later. The newlywed couple moved into a rental flat in November last year.

Wang said he often quarreled with his wife over money and over her refusal to wear a skirt. He eventually chased her out of the house two months later. He said, "She contacted me again in May this year. I told her she could come back, but my conditions are that she must do the chores, and wear a skirt to have sex with me every night. If she is willing, I will give her $100 on the first night, then $300 every month for household expenses".

"She was willing to wear a skirt but not have sex with me, so I chased her out within two weeks," he added. Wang also said that the Chinese national woman had told him at their first meeting that she was looking for a Singaporean man to marry so that she can remain in Singapore. She has since obtained her working permit and is a store assistant at a hawker store.

Wang now wants a divorce with his wife so that he can develop a relationship with a Vietnamese girl he met. Unfortunately for him, he was told that he has to file for separation and wait 4 years before he can divorce his wife. He has tried asking his wife for a divorce but she wants him to fulfill two conditions before she would agree to it. He shall have to repay all her debts - an unknown amount, and he has to buy her an air ticket to return to China.

If you migrate to Vietnam and take up their citizenship or PR, then your value will decrease drastically. They are a country of people that look up to foreigners, locals or any poor foreigners in their country are deem not valuable. Most corporate jobs are filled by expats and they are employed in their own country before being posted to Vietnam. Singaporeans find Vietnam attractive now because we are earning Singapore Dollar and exchange rates are to our benefit. If you earn VND there, you will not be at advantage and for sure, smiles will not be on your face.

We are hearning just one side of the story, but if things are really like that, then this guy is not suitable for marriage. He's just using money to buy sex, he might as well just go Geylang for his sessions.

Hmmm, i thought PR is renewable every 5 years? To give just 1 year, isn't it the same as LTSVP?

ICA can shorten PR re-entry permit to between 1 - 5 years following the criteria:

1. passport expiry date
2. dun stay minimum number of days for previous year
3. other reasons classified

Then it seems quite the same as LTSVP. This makes PR not as attractive then .

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

PR is permanet but not reentry permit. If PR dont mind staying in Singapore without traveling out of singapore, then dont bother. ICA used to allow PR to renew re-entry permit up to ten years. But recently, only allow up to five years. But never heard of one year reentry permit.

I reckon the bro intend to stay there longer term, not citizenship. I believe the person is still shuttling between native home & Vn. It might be best of both world - living there in Vn enjoying a less-stress & affordable life, yet still tap on native home for other benefits (e.g. medical, housing). Any other good reasons (besides the exchange-rate thing?) - would like to hear everyone's opinion.

I heard taking up long-term stay at Vn is not that difficult. Anyone can enlighten us all?

Taking up long term stay in VN is not difficult, there are more than one way to get approval to stay there. Of course, what most bros think of is Permanent residence. This is , of course, the best. But if you do not land a job there and wish to stay there more than the 30 days allowed for Singaporeans each time, you can get a VISA that allows you to stay up to 90 days each time, and the VISA is valid for 3 years. If you do land a corporate job there, for sure the company will have to apply for you the Work Permit, which will allow you to stay there for long term.

As for enjoying the best of both worlds, unless you are running a business there under someone else's name. Or else, where will you have the time to stay there and not work? What i did between 2002 and 2007 was just like that, i stay in VN each time for around 3 weeks, then i return to Singapore for around 4 to 5 days, then i return to VN again. I do agree that life in VN is less stressful, not so organised and is seriously an `eye-opener' for Singaporeans. But like any other person from the city, we yearn for some organised things after some time of disorganisation.... hahhaha From mid 2007 till now, i travel to VN once or twice a month, each time is short trip (except the few months when i was running the cafe there). Each trip is enjoyable and brings back the good memories of staying there last time. There are pros and cons, but if its not for my children's education, i may still be staying there.
