agree, lucas n poulsen weren't protecting the back 4 well in WBA match... WBA players were having time n space to take shot just outside the box, where our defensive midfield should be dominating...

come on, he did stay 1 more year. Plus without any real investment in the team, you can see why he wants to play for a better team. From a team fighting for honours to a team who finished 7th. Then changed the manager who signed him and continue to get 2nd rate replacement players...

No one can begrudge him if he feels that he has a better prospect over there but the manner in which he left in a lurch by refusing to play...that is smack of unprofessional...and not that he is badly paid as a pro.

Bro, it's not even about that. H & H were classy defenders but they did well cos of the way Houllier made us play - Owen and Heskey all the way in front, and our midfield just in front of the defence (remember we had no real wingers or width under Houllier).

It's natural our midfield be less defensive in a home match against a weak (on paper) club. The real problem was fluency in attack in which there was little. If we had attacked well, we would have pinned West Brom back and then our defence would have coped easily (the old adage: attack is the best form of defence is true at home).

Liverpool have today completed the signing of Paul Konchesky on a four-year contract.

The 29-year-old full-back moves to Anfield from Fulham after agreeing terms with the Reds and passing a medical.

Youngsters Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic have made the switch from Anfield to Craven Cottage as part of the deal.

while i've no complaint in signing an english player with bpl experience, but i'm not sure abt losing these 2 young players... esp. lauri balle valle, who has been scoring goals in youth team n reserve team for fun...

I'm surprised we sold Babel to another EPL team. Even if he can't fit in, we should have sold him overseas. If got to sell to an EPL team, we shouldn't be selling for lesser than what we paid to buy him. He now has EPL experience... Sigh.. We should sack the jokers running our transfers...

I'm surprised by the swap deal too, if only cos I thought Konchesky is not worth that much.

Oldest should still be Chelsea? Heh.

Babel has not signed la and in fact seemed to have tweeted YNWA!

I am deeply disappointed that again we have no backup to Torres. I CANT FUCKING BELIEVE IT!!!

bro, the rumoured deal is off. i read the headline news in soccernet that 'West Ham have turned down a £9 million bid from Liverpool for Carlton Cole while Ryan Babel will stay at Anfield'.

I think RH is just trying to make sure he survives the first season by buying older, proven players. Even if it means sacrificing talented but unproven players. Is Chelsea's first 11 still the oldest? They have released Deco and Ballack. I do wonder if Babel can be Torres's backup. When Babel first joined us, he was a centre-forward right?

I'm very sure that is RH's plan, and a way of covering his ass if the season goes wrong.

Babel has the potential. With him and Ngog, we can play the ball into space for them to chase. But both of them have not used the ball intelligently and have little chemistry with Stevie and other attackers.

It will be a huge gamble again. I would rather put Kuyt up front but he is not strong or mobile enough to hold or chase the ball.

If to play 442 i rather go with k&t upfront. Wings supported my maxi and joe cole. Central is poulsen/lucas/raul and gerrard.

On paper looks good. Cant wait to see raul play for us.
