Thumbs up City Harvest Case: Ho Yeow Sun cleared to resume leadership duties

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

City Harvest Church members on Monday cheered the news that Ms Ho Yeow Sun has been cleared to return to lead the church she co-founded.

She will resume her role as executive director after the Commissioner of Charities (COC) lifted the suspension of her duties ahead of the August deadline, with immediate effect.

"I am very thankful to Jesus that I can resume my executive duties at such a crucial time for City Harvest Church," said Ms Ho, 43, who is married to church founder Kong Hee.

"I am truly glad that I have been fully vindicated."

How the case unfolded

Early 2010: The Commissioner of Charities (COC) receives complaints alleging the misuse of City Harvest Church funds.

May 2010: The COC and Commercial Affairs Department launch investigations.

Feb 2011: The COC's inquiry finds funds were misused.

June 2012: Church founder Kong Hee and five senior members - Tan Ye Peng, Sharon Tan, Chew Eng Han, Serina Wee and Lam Leng Hung - are arrested. The COC also suspends eight leaders, including Kong and his wife, Ho Yeow Sun.

June 2012: Kong and five senior members are charged for allegedly funnelling $24 million into sham bond investments to further Ms Ho's music career from January 2007 to October 2008. They are said to have misappropriated another $26.6 million from April to October 2009 to cover up the first sum. All face varying counts of criminal breach of trust.

July 2012: Former church finance manager Serina Wee is accused of six counts of criminal breach of trust and four of falsifying accounts. The COC also suspends her.

April 2013: The COC gives notice of his intention to remove eight individuals, excluding Ms Ho, from their positions in church.

May 13: Deadline for the eight to make their case to the commissioner as to why they should not be removed is extended another two months.

May 15: Criminal trial scheduled to begin.
