Petronas posts record profit of RM61 bil

State-owned energy firm Petronas today announced a record RM61 billion in net profit for 2007/2008, up 31.5 percent from RM46.4 billion a year ago.

MCPX"We have performed quite well. It is another historic set of numbers for Petronas Group," president and chief executive Mohamad Hassan Marican told reporters.

Petronas, under intense criticism with allegations of mismanagement and secrecy, also announced a special dividend payout of RM6 billion to the government.
