Thumbs up Lowest welfare, healthcare & education spending in the world?

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

LOWEST WELFARE, HEALTHCARE & EDUCATION SPENDING IN THE WORLD?

Post date:
5 Mar 2015 - 2:23pm

Social policy shifting to the left

According to the Straits Times news report “Singapore Budget Debate 2015: The debate in 2 minutes on Day 2” – “Left, Right – and Beyonce
The puns about the Government’s “shift to the left” in social policies continued. Nominated MP K. Karthikeyan lauded the shift, saying “if we go too far to the right, it’s not right,” while MP Alex Yam (Chua Chu Kang GRC) quoted pop star Beyonce’s 2006 hit “Irreplaceable”: “To the left, to the left.”"
All these talk in Parliament about the “shift to the left” in social policy spending is “utter rubbish”.

Lowest social, healthcare & education spending in the world?

Because if you look at the Monthly Digest of Statistics (page 78) released on 4 March, 2015 – our operating expenditure in FY2013 for Social & Family Development, healthcare (operating and development expenditure) and education, at $1.6, $5.8 and $10.6 billion, or about 0.4, 1.6 and 3.0 per cent of GDP, are the lowest in the world based on spending as a percentage of GDP.

Highest defense spending?

In contrast, our Defense expenditure at $11.3 billion or about 3.1 per cent of GDP, is the highest in the world on a per capita basis.

Highest cash Budget surplus & reserves?

How can the most expensive city in the world with the highest reserves per capita and cash Budget surplus per capita in the world – have the lowest spending in welfare, healthcare and education?

Don’t spend a single cent on CPF?

On top of these, the Government does not spend a single on CPF as it is our own contributions – from which they hive off on the average about a million dollars per person in one’s lifetime – like no other country in the world.
