My answer to your poll question is both yes and no depend on situation. Though Upping and Zapping is common in SBF, you can post carefully to prevent being zapped so frequent. If we know when and what to comment at the right time and some words though truthful cannot be said at an inappropriate time. It is the same as in real life situation.

Esp for newbie even if your comment make sense but sounds arrogrant, you can be zapped badly.

Some NO reasons I can think of...
- cos' you/I only post nice comments that people want to read, so they won't zap me... I hope
- cos' you/I got BALLS, no need scared
- cos' you/I got many clones to zap back, no need scared
- cos' you/I got many points to zap back, no need scared
- cos' you/I only want to see pics/videos and PCC, not interested in other stuffs
- cos' you/I only talk to my clique
- cos' you/I only post positive FRs, no need scared
- cos' you/I chiobu, no need scared

In real life, everyone got power (status, job titles, contacts, knowledge, etc).
During social meetings, most people will talk politely and diplomatically (while sizing up one another).
