Thumbs up Singapore rands 145 in List of countries by spending on education (% of GDP).

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Singapore spends very little on the education of her students in terms of GDP.

No 145 in a list of 197 countries - PAP govt spends only 3% of its GDP on education.

In ASEAN, Thailand and Malaysia spends 4.1% of its GDP on education, Vietnam at 5.3%, and Brunei at 3.7%

Below Singapore are Philippines and Indonesia at 2.8%, Laos at 2.3%, and Cambodia at 2.1%.
These are the countries that send their women to work as maids in Singapore. Notice the one common factor.

True First World states like USA and UK spends 5.5% of GDP on education. Nordic countries rank even higher - Finland spends 5.9% of GDP on education, Sweden at 6.6%, and Norway at 6.8%. The Danes are highest in Europe at 7.8%

( Failed states like Sudan spend 27.8% but then, their GDP is very low. Timor Leste at 16.8 %.)

If Singapore claims to be a First World country, why are we spending so little on Education? I know the answer - because the PAP govt makes parents pay for their kids' education - Parents pay hundreds each month to send their kids to Kindergarten. University fees are in the region of 10k to 30k per year or more. Unless we spend more on Education especially at Tertiary levels, we do not qualify to call ourselves as part of the First World. Parents from truely First World countries do not need to struggle as hard to send their kids to University.

Education is a basic right of a citizen. Why should the PAP abdicate its' responsibilities? Because parents are like sheep. We accept the shit thrown to us by the uncaring PAP government. Families without means are not be able to send their kids to University in Singapore. To put it bluntly - "You Die is Your Own Business"
