The hospital in Jurong will offer outpatient and inpatient services upon opening, while the Emergency Department (ED) will begin operating in phases. For the first month, the ED will receive only walk-in cases to allow staff to acclimatise to the workplace and for operations to stabilise. By Aug 1, the ED will receive resuscitation patients and critically-ill patients brought by SCDF ambulances. NTFGH will open with 365 out of 700 beds, with a progressive ramp up over the next 12 months. It will also hold 76 community hospital beds, which will subsequently be transferred to the Jurong Community Hospital when it opens this year. JurongHealth will cease operations at Alexandra Hospital (AH) at 5.30pm on Jun 29 to prepare for the opening of NTFGH the next day. During this period, the services at AH will be scaled down, said JurongHealth in a news release on Wednesday (Apr 29). It added that it will work closely with MOH and other public hospitals to ensure that patient safety and quality care is not compromised. From May 30, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) ambulances will stop bringing patients to AH. They will instead be brought to the EDs of the next nearest public hospitals, mainly Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and National University Hospital (NUH) for immediate medical attention. Patients warded in AH on Jun 29 may choose to be transferred to NTFGH, or another public hospital. Patients at AH’s ED who are assessed as requiring hospital admission will be transferred to SGH or NUH for admission. JurongHealth also said has been in contact with existing Specialist Outpatient Clinic (SOC) patients at AH on the details of their care arrangements. Patients can continue to receive SOC care at AH until Jun 29 and have their follow-up appointments at NTFGH, Jurong Medical Centre or another public hospital of their choice. AH will close from Jun 30 for maintenance and renovation work. By the third quarter of 2015, a new healthcare team from Sengkang Health will take over the management of AH, said JurongHealth. The opening of the NTFGH was initially slated for December, but it was pushed back by about six months due to construction delays. - CNA/eg Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
