Thumbs up Fighter aircraft options - other than F-35

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Normally when you want to buy something, you shop around, compare, then decide, based on needs, practicality, budget, and other relevant considerations. Singapore's defense planners might have other things on their mind when they opted for the F-35, they have their reasons. Finland here faces this decision, but looks like they are not rushing to finalize anything. Well, your leaders like the F-35, but my view is that, it is way overpriced, unproven, and if it works, still unnecessary. Anyways, it doesn't matter to me, its your tax money.

Cheers!

Finland announced Thursday it plans to replace its 62 F/A-18 Hornets.

A report prepared for Finland’s defence department recommended the selection of the country’s new fighter should begin in 2017/2018 with a decision on the type of plane to be purchased made by 2021.
Finland’s Minister of Defense Jussi Niinisto said at a press conference that the official decision to proceed with the procurement will be made later this year but the government would follow the report’s recommendations.
Exact numbers of fighter jets to be purchased was not recommended in the report but it is expected that a one for one replacement would take place.
Major General Lauri Puranen provided journalists with details on the planes to be considered. “These five fighters are Eurofighter, French Dassault Rafale, American Boeing Super Hornet or Lockheed Martin JSF F-35, and Swedish JAS Gripen,” the major general said. “All of these are possible and we don’t have a favorite.”
“We are not commenting on the number of new fighters at this point but I can say the current number of planes has responded well to the needs of a country this size,” Puranen said.

In contrast, the Canadian government still does not have specific details on its replacement of its CF-18s.
