PM Lee Hsien Loong: I will continue to increase the number of foreigners

admin / 6 hours ago August 23, 2015

At his National Day Rally speech today, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that he has been “doing what Singapore needs and best safeguard Singaporeans’ interests”, and intend to continue increasing the number of foreigners:
“But on this matter, there are not easy choices. Every option has a downside. If Singapore closes its doors to foreign workers, the economy will tank.
I believe that I am doing what Singapore needs and what best safeguards your interest. If I did not believe that, I would not be doing it. It is my responsibility to make this judgment and act on your behalf. And having acted, I owe it to you to account to you for my decisions, for doing what I did.”

Despite having met with severe opposition from Singaporeans about having a 6.9 million population, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is still adamant on his loose immigration policies and determination to continue increasing the number of foreigners.
His ruling party PAP government looks set to continue governance and his seat at Ang Mo Kio GRC remains steady. It is unlikely a new government can be formed in the coming general election to overturn the 6.9 million population decision.
