Wife to plead guilty, husband to claim trial in sedition case
Coward Singaporean wants to claim trial and Aussie wife agrees to take the blame... Smart and calculated move, they think by doing so the court will take into account she's Aussie so the sentence will be less severe... Very business mindset... After earning so much money from idiotic Singaporeans who visit their website; these CB couple most probably escape with minimum damage to enjoy their money after serving the pittance sentence by our Singapore court... Another great move by such CB people who have no morals to speak off... But what to do? Just have to suck thumb becos those stupid Singaporeans wants to degrade their own country by visiting such rubbish website to let such CB earn money.....
But for those people with no morals, this is indeed a great business.... Becos there'll always be dumb Singaporeans around with no brains to support such rubbish websites.... One such website was by another CB Singaporean who ran away to Aussie-land last year... Please support this CB Kia becos he graduate with an engineering degree from a unknown university.... But with a good business mind like these CB couple... "The trial of the husband-and-wife team accused of sedition, over articles on a now-defunct sociopolitical website, began with an unusual turn yesterday. Australian Ai Takagi, 23, who is charged with seven counts of sedition for articles published by The Real Singapore (TRS), told the district court she would plead guilty. But her Singaporean husband Yang Kaiheng, 27, is denying the charges and claiming trial. The articles posted on TRS between October 2013 and February last year are alleged to have promoted ill will and hostility between different races or classes in Singapore. The couple also face an eighth charge, for failing to produce financial statements on the website's advertising revenue to the police. In his opening remarks yesterday, Deputy Public Prosecutor G. Kannan said the couple "maliciously exploit(ed) racial and xenophobic faultlines" and deliberately sowed discord between Singaporeans and foreigners from the Philippines, India and China "for nothing more than their self-interest". The couple were "wildly successful in their efforts to profit from the ill-will and hostility that they were peddling", Deputy Public Prosecutor G. Kannan said. Based on their bank statements, they earned between A$20,000 (S$20,400) and more than A$50,000 per month, he said. Though the website purported to be the "voice of average Singaporeans", DPP Kannan said the reality was that it reflected the views of "Takagi, a foreigner who had never resided, studied or worked in Singapore, and Yang, a disgruntled Singaporean". He said Takagi did the "outrageous" act of adopting the Malay name "Farhan" in one of the contentious articles to hide her identity as a foreigner while fostering xenophobia. The couple, who married last October, were "wildly successful in their efforts to profit from the ill will and hostility that they were peddling", he added. Based on their bank statements, they earned between A$20,000 (S$20,500) and more than A$50,000 a month, he said. The court was not told when these sums were earned. To bring in more advertising revenue, the couple "quite plainly regarded accuracy, propriety and truthfulness as necessary casualties", he added. DPP Kannan cited an article that falsely asserted a Filipino family had caused an incident between the police and participants of the Thaipusam procession last year. He also said that TRS was jointly run by the couple, and that evidence will "show Yang's continued, sustained and intimate involvement in every aspect of the running of TRS". But the couple's lawyer, Mr Choo Zheng Xi, said Yang was not the person behind TRS. "He will deny the distribution, the proprietorship and the writing of the articles in question," he said. The maximum punishment under the Sedition Act is a $5,000 fine and three years' jail on each charge. The TRS website was shut down by its editors last May, after the regulator, the Media Development Authority, suspended their licence to operate the site and ordered them to take it offline." The prosecution is expected to call six witnesses during the trial, including five police officers, while the defence said both Takagi and Yang would testify. Takagi will make her guilty plea in court today, while Yang's trial will proceed on Friday. A version of this article appeared in the print edition of The Straits Times on March 08, 2016, with the headline 'Wife to plead guilty, husband to claim trial in sedition case'. thats the reason why TOC, TRS, etc can survive for so long without any restrictions... telling lies by itself is not a crime unless it breaks our laws.... to the supporters of such sites, they will mix some facts with lies in order to hoodwink singaporeans.... then when people found out, they'll say its half truths... but mind u, half truths is in fact just lies... just like some idiot Rxx who will even draw statistics to make his lies look real.... i must say that these people really spend huge amount of time to spin such lies.... if there is no benefits for them, would they do it? so now we know that there is big money involved once enough idiots visit and support such websites or blogs.... |

Martyn See March 6 · The PAP has a long and nasty record of dishing out personal attacks and name calling. It is a tradition that first began with Lee Kuan Yew labelling his opponents at the Barisan Sosialis "Communists", which resulted in the arrest, detention, torture and stigmatisation of thousands of Singaporeans, in particular Chia Thye Poh who lost 32 years of his life to imprisonment without trial. Name calling by the PAP is no child's play, especially when the party has full control over the local media. As Francis Seow once noted, "Give a dog a bad name and hang it." It can have devastating effects on families and can break lives. The late JB Jeyaretnam was called "mangy dog", "skunk" and "street hustler" by LKY, who proceeded to bankrupt and crush him, with full co-operation of the entire system. Labelled a "Marxist" in 1987, Vincent Cheng was locked up and suffered blows to his abdomen til he coughed blood. Labelled an "Anti-Christian Chinese Chauvinist", Tang Liang Hong had his assets seized and was exiled, leaving his wife and daughter in mental duress. Labelled a "political gangster" and "psychopath" by LKY, Chee Soon Juan was prosecuted, bankrupted, mocked and maligned for 20 years of his political and personal life. During the LKY era, personal attacks were often amplified by the media. When Chee was called a "psychopath", Chua Lee Hoong quoted unnamed medical experts in an entire article to support LKY's diagnosis of the former psychology lecturer. In the post-LKY era, the dirty work has largely been farmed out to a shadowy brigade of keyboard lynch mobs. Sometimes operating under a shroud of pseudonymity, character assassinations have since taken an even nastier tone. Recent recipients of such venom include not just opposition politicians (Vincent Wijeysingha, Yaw Shin Leong, Nicole Seah) but lawyers (M. Ravi), bloggers (Roy Ngerng, Kirsten Han), rights activists (Jolovan Wham, Gilbert Goh), website editors (TRS, TOC) and now even parents seeking justice for their dead children. Next to detention without trial and legal suits, launching personal attacks is PAP's most effective strategy to silence and crush its critics. And it has also worked wonders in perpetuating a culture of self-censorship. No one likes to have his personal life exposed to all and sundry as a consequence for merely challenging the authorities. But the complete impunity enjoyed during the LKY era is now gone. Politicians who engage in gutter politics are now as vulnerable as the opponents they target. For everytime Chan Chun Sing attacks Chee Soon Juan, the gut reaction of netizens is to reciprocate with even lower blows against the minister. For everytime K. Shanmugam threatens a critic, the subject of his divorce gets another airing. For every Yaw Shin Leong, there is always a Michael Palmer waiting to be found out. But will the PAP elevate itself from such an-eye-for-an-eye political discourse? Highly unlikely. Personal attacks and name-calling has proven to serve the PAP very well over the decades. It is very much in the party's DNA. To extricate it from itself, it needs to re-evaluate and denounce LKY's use of such a method to crush opponents. No one is betting on that to happen. |

Re: Wife to plead guilty, husband to claim trial in sedition case
http://singaporealternatives.blogspo...offensive.html
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 04, 2007 PAP's Internet Offensive Saturday February 3, 1:09 PM S'pore's PAP rebuts online critics anonymously--daily SINGAPORE, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Members of Singapore's long-ruling People's Action Party (PAP) are posting anonymous messages in Internet forums and blogs to rebut online criticism of the party, a leading daily reported on Saturday. The postings were an initiative driven by two sub-committees under the PAP's "new media" committee chaired by Manpower Minister Ng Eng Hen, the pro-government Straits Times said, citing unnamed sources. A government spokeswoman contacted on Saturday declined to comment. The two sub-committees, made up of politicians and some technology-savvy party activists, were formed after the May 2006 general election, the Straits Times said. The PAP's share of the vote slid to 66.6 percent last year, from 75.3 percent at the previous election in 2001. The panels had been set up to express the PAP's views online where there were few pro-establishment voices, the newspaper said, quoting a member of parliament who heads one sub-committee. "The identity is not important. It is the message that is important," Baey Yam Keng was quoted as saying. The Straits Times quoted Baey as saying that the messages were only effective if they were not "too obvious" lest they resemble "propaganda". A PAP activist involved in posting the anonymous messages was quoted as saying that he tracked popular blogs and forums to "see if there is anything we can clarify" on controversial issues such as the impending hike in the goods and services tax. The PAP, which has ruled Singapore since independence in 1965, has been criticised by human rights groups such as Amnesty International in the past for its curbs on freedom of expression. Party leaders say tight regulation of public debate and the media in the city-state is necessary to maintain law and order. The above Reuters article is derived from Straits Time article below: Feb 3, 2007 PAP moves to counter criticism of party, Govt in cyberspace By Li Xueying THE People's Action Party (PAP) is mounting a quiet counter-insurgency against its online critics. It has members going into Internet forums and blogs to rebut anti-establishment views and putting up postings anonymously. Sources told The Straits Times the initiative is driven by two sub-committees of the PAP's 'new media' committee chaired by Manpower Minister Ng Eng Hen. One sub-committee, co-headed by Minister of State (Education) Lui Tuck Yew and Hong Kah GRC MP Zaqy Mohamad, strategises the campaign. The other is led by Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Baey Yam Keng and Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC MP Josephine Teo. Called the 'new media capabilities group', it executes the strategies. Both were set up after last year's General Election. Aside from politicians, some 20 IT-savvy party activists are also involved. When contacted, Mr Baey declined to give details of the group's activities, but he outlined the broad principles of the initiative. It was necessary for the PAP to have a voice in cyberspace as there were few in the online community who were pro-establishment, he said. As such, the committees aim to 'observe how new media is developing and see how we can use the new media as part of the overall media landscape', he added. 'How do we facilitate views that are pro-party and propagate them through the Internet?' The approach reflects comments by Rear-Admiral (NS) Lui at the PAP's party conference in December. He called on younger activists to put up views 'to moderate the vitriol and balance the skewed comments' on the Internet. But this can only work if activists are not 'too obvious' about it, Mr Baey said yesterday. Otherwise it comes across as 'propaganda'. 'The identity is not important. It is the message that is important,' he added. One activist who is involved said that when posting comments on online forums and the feedback boxes of blogs, he does not identify himself as a PAP member. He tracks popular blogs and forums to 'see if there is anything we can clarify' on hot-button topics such as the impending hike in the Goods and Services Tax. But he added: 'We don't rebut everything. Sometimes, what is said is fair enough, and we send the feedback on to the committee.' This latest initiative comes on top of a blog site with posts by 12 MPs born after Singapore's Independence in 1965. It recognises that more younger Singaporeans are relying on the new media as a main source of information. An Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) study conducted last year found that younger and better-educated Singaporeans relied on information from the Internet when shaping their voting choices at the last GE. Among the opposition parties, members and supporters of the Workers' Party, in particular, post regularly on forums online. But IPS senior research fellow Tan Tarn How wonders about the effectiveness of the PAP's campaign. He said Internet users who post on forums such as Sammyboy tend not to be interested in 'intellectual debate' and so will not be persuaded by PAP activists anyway. As for more serious-minded bloggers, he said the views that the activists may put out are already available in the mainstream media. [email protected] You may want to read Mr. Wang Says So and Xeno Boy articles on this topic. There is also a good analysis on why PAP "leaks" the "secret" operations here. I share similar sentiments with Mr. Wang on this particular report. I am very surprised that the ST article was allowed to published. First of all, to reveal such "secret strategy" is disastrous to PAP's internet image! Hey, c'mon, as the largest and powerful ruling party that has dominated Singapore's political scene, its members do not dare to identify themselves as PAP members when communicating with other Singaporeans on the internet platform? Are they ashame or too afraid to be identified with PAP or what? But on second thought, I think PAP has found out that their "secret covert operations" may be too slow and ineffective in covering the whole internet sphere, thus, to "leak" this information in a hopeful bid to create fear in bloggers and internet writers. Personally, I am proud of my past association with WP even when it was just a political party on the development path. What are the PAP members afraid of by openly declaring their association with PAP? What's the matter with them? Aren't they proud of their own party which has contributed much to Singapore's progress for the last 5 decades? As all of you could observe from the many "anonymous" comments recorded here on my blog for the past few months, one would now really put serious doubts on whether they are really "PAP's internet fighters"! How many of these comments come from them, I really wonder! I have hoped that one day, this PAP's secret internet offensive will be revealed to the public and thus, insisted to keep the comment column open to anonymous posters. Interesting enough, after I declare my intention of capturing all those possible agents' vicious attacks on me so that the whole world will know about it, there is a dramatic decrease in such anonymous comments! If you read those comments in my blog, you will know why PAP wanted their internet fighters to stay anonymous. Many of the remarks are even defamatory in nature! As a matter of fact, I have long suspected that PAP has started to carry out its "internet management" plan as far back as July 2006 when I had a meeting with a few WP members and associates. The successful application of internet by WP back in GE 2006 as well as the active engagement of WP members 2 years prior to GE 2006 has made PAP rethink about the possible impact of the new media. Prior to GE 2006, PAP has taken the view that the new media, internet, will have little impact on the political front even though that it has been dominated by anti-PAP sentiments for a almost a decade. But apparently GE 2006 has changed their mind. The sudden increase of aggressive comments posted on my blog as well as forums right after GE 2006 is an interesting indicator of how PAP's internet fighters work. They may be very clumsy but they may be effective in a sense that I might have possibly become one of their trophy! Well, life still goes on in the internet sphere with or without PAP internet fighters. But I guess now most people will be more skeptical when they see "Pro-PAP" or "Anti-Opposition" postings on the net... the question will always be on our mind "Hey, is this from the PAP internet fighters?" Re: Wife to plead guilty, husband to claim trial in sedition case
Amazing income just to sprout lies and sow discord... I wonder how much dividends were paid to her supporters? But looking at how greedy she looks, most probable close to nothing.....
Extracts from St: "Going by the claims of Ai Takagi, The Real Singapore (TRS) website was nothing more than a platform for Singaporeans to express their views without fear. But, in fact, it was a big cash cow that raked in almost half a million dollars in advertising revenue for its owners in just 17 months. Facts about how the Australian citizen ran the news portal as an owner and chief editor emerged in court yesterday, as she pleaded guilty to four counts of sedition for publishing articles that promoted ill will and hostility between Singaporeans and foreigners. dw-trs-farhan-160308.jpg Ai Takagi (right, seen with husband Yang Kaiheng), was found to have posted numerous articles on defunct website The Real Singapore under the fictitious name of 'Farhan'. Related Story Fake name 'Farhan' used on TRS reappears on other socio-political websites Among the four inflammatory articles was one where she falsely stated that a Filipino family had caused a commotion between the police and participants of last year's Thaipusam procession. Yesterday, the prosecution said that Takagi, 23, had intentionally posted these articles to drive up traffic and to profit from it. More than 95 per cent of the website's readers were from Singapore. The court heard that TRS received more than 134 million page views in total from May 2014 to March last year, double that of the preceding year. Articles that sought to promote ill-will between S'poreans, foreigners TRS editor and publisher Ai Takagi, 23, was yesterday convicted of four charges of sedition in TRS articles that sought to promote ill-will and hostility between Singaporeans and foreigners. They are: Video: Local Singaporeans Complain of Police Brutality At Thaipusam Procession, published on Feb 4, 2015 The article made a false claim that a Filipino family had complained about a group of Singaporeans who were playing musical instruments during the Feb 3, 2015 Thaipusam procession. It also said erroneously that the police "descended" on the group because of the complaint. Ai Takagi first attributed the story to a "TRS contributor", then later to "Ri Nitesha TRS Reader". She claimed "Ri Nitesha" was Ms Gowri Yanaseckaran, who e-mailed TRS. Investigations showed that though Ms Gowri did e-mail TRS, she made no mention of a Filipino family. Ms Gowri later said on her Facebook page that the article was "cooked up". Takagi insisted that Ms Gowri was the source of the information, but could not produce e-mails or documents to back up her claims. Why Some Singaporeans Feel Annoyed With Pinoys In Singapore, published on June 18, 2014 The article quoted a Singaporean who had allegedly quit his job over the behaviour of Filipinos in his company. It made several assertions about Filipinos, such as that they often gave preferential treatment to their countrymen and were "two-faced", "relentless back stabbers". Takagi said the article was based on an e-mail sent to a TRS e-mail account that only she could access. Dear TRS, PRC Woman Makes Boy Pee Publicly In The MRT Into A Bottle, published on Feb 18, 2014 The article said a woman from the People's Republic of China (PRC) had pulled down her grandson's pants while they were in the MRT, and had asked him to urinate into an empty drink bottle. Takagi claimed a TRS reader had submitted the article, and had also given the same information to Stomp, a citizen journalism website owned by Singapore Press Holdings. But the Stomp article did not say that the woman was from China. Takagi was not able to produce the source article allegedly submitted by the reader. Exposed: Puppy Murderer Works In Healthcare Industry, Her Company Hires Mostly Foreigners, published on Oct 13, 2013 The article, purportedly about a company that hired more foreigners than Singaporeans, had carried an editor's note that said it was the objective of TRS editors to "instil fear in companies and make them think twice before hiring foreigners without really considering our Singaporean workforce". It was signed off by a "Farhan". But investigations showed Takagi had been using the Malay- sounding name to hide her own identity since 2013. PRESSING ISSUE This is quite urgent for us, since you said you would be able to do it these few days. Our traffic revenue has dropped from like $20,000 USD/month to like $3,000 to $4,000 a month, which is terrible! '' AI TAKAGI, in a Skype chat with a freelance programmer hired to fix technical problems on The Real Singapore website. Deputy Public Prosecutor G. Kannan said the website used advertising services by Google and Taboola, which display advertisements alongside articles. Each time an article is viewed on the site, an advertisement is displayed and TRS would be paid for it. Between December 2013 and April last year, the website earned over A$473,000 (S$488,000) in advertising revenue from Google alone, he said. Despite this, Takagi had claimed that she "did not keep tabs" on the website's traffic and also did not "give much thought" to advertising revenue, said DPP Kannan. However, he added, her online chat transcripts showed otherwise, and she had expressed her frustration when the website ran into problems that caused traffic, and advertising revenue, to fall. On one such occasion in September 2012, she sent a slew of messages over Skype to a programmer in just six minutes, and said: "We have already repeated many times to you, this is affecting our readership and also our earnings tremendously. Seriously, when can I get this fixed?" Takagi had also put together a presentation titled, "Advertising with The Real Singapore", in 2013, in which she said the website would work together with advertisers to produce advertorials. During investigations, Takagi denied having a particular agenda, and said the articles she published on TRS were all based on "what people felt and submitted to her". But DPP Kannan said an editor's note she had written made clear that the website wanted to "instil fear" in those who hired foreigners. Takagi had also once said to a contributor that the style of writing on TRS "was one of portraying the mainstream media in Singapore as being biased", he added. He also said Takagi was not forthcoming with her answers on various issues during investigations. In three statements recorded by the police, she had answered "not relevant" no less than 101 times, he said. Yesterday, Takagi sat in the dock solemnly as these facts of the case were read out. Four other charges against her - three of them for sedition and one for refusing to hand over documents needed in police investigations - were taken into consideration for sentencing. The maximum punishment under the Sedition Act is a $5,000 fine and three years' jail on each charge. District Judge Salina Ishak adjourned sentencing submissions to March 23. Takagi and her Singaporean husband, Yang Kaiheng, 27, were expected to face a joint trial on Monday. But before it began, she told the court she would be pleading guilty. Her husband denies the charges and will claim trial. Both are represented by lawyer Choo Zheng Xi from Peter Low LLC. Yesterday, there was also some drama when an unknown man tried to serve a writ of summons, a document to commence a civil suit, on Yang outside the courtroom. A witness told The Straits Times that the man threw the documents in Yang's face, after he refused to accept them. Police were later seen taking the statements of both men." |
