SINGAPORE - A taxi crashed into a Thai restaurant along Toa Payoh Lorong 1 on Wednesday (Nov 16) evening.

The eatery, Thai Lily Restaurant, is located at Block 107, which is near Braddell MRT station.

Police said they were alerted to the accident at 5.19pm.

The 61-year-old male taxi driver was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The Straits Times understands that no other people were injured.

There were no diners in the restaurant as it had just opened for the night, residents said.

A stationery car was also involved in the accident.

Ms Chris Hwang, 51, who is self employed, was browsing in the Phoon Huat outlet next door, when she heard the staff there talking about an accident outside.

Curious, she went out to take a look and saw her car was scratched when the taxi crashed into the restaurant.

"I got here about 4.45pm to pass some time while waiting for my husband. I had parked at another lot at first, but as I was walking here I saw a empty lot, so I drove my car and parked it nearer to the shop," she said.

"I did not hear any sound while I was in Phoon Huat, so I didn't think something serious happened. I was shocked to see this."

The taxi was towed away at 6.50pm. Police investigations are ongoing.
